Members Scheming Demon
I'll second that - very, very good. This is coming from a guy who plays in a Rush Tribute so hopefully I should know. It is almost exact with only very minor differences that most people would not notice except for anal drummers who know Rush like me.

Members ArtVandelay
I'm not sure I understand this clip. I SEE him playing but I'm hearing Peart's drums, not his. How do I know this? There's one small part where Peart plays 2 quick flams and I see this guy only do one - it's near the end of the clip. So how can we know he's really hitting things that accurately? If he is, nice job, if not, well, he can get there if he keeps practicing. Also, his left-hand grip looks very week. His index finger is barely touching the stick. Weird to me. Members DrumMonkey
Is he bollocks playing that... he might be playing along but it's not him we're hearing. I don't buy it... One simple reason... Where are the drum mics? No overheads, nothing on the hats, snare or toms.. The drums sound too good, too balanced with the mix to be not mic'd and compressed/gated. There's no way even acoustically recording the drums with one mic and laying it over the track (with the original drums removed) that it would sound that good. This is all from a "sound" perspective rather than "playing" perspective. I'm sure he can play it, and play it well - but that's not him we're hearing. - DM

Members rockfan
I viewed the clip several times before posting it.Yes, you cannot hear him playing it, rather you hear the song. But you can clearly see him playing with the song. You cannot fake that. But there's being able to look like your doing it and actually doing it. How do we know he isn't accidentally hitting the rims on the toms and missing the bell of the ride? Accuracy is important and cant' be judged by just watching.

Everywhere there are scams. How can people easily believe the "bible" where there is no tangiable proof of an "Eden" an "Ark," just heresay. Yet, people see it as "holy."Go read Ovid's "Metamorphosis," which predates the bible, and tell me the stories there aren't in the bible.

Members ArtVandelay
Sorry. I just don't see anyone calling this video of Tom Sawyer or e-mail scams holy. Apples and oranges. Please now, let's keep this discussion on topic - after all, you started the topic. I apologize to everyone else for falling victim to this off-topic war of words. Members Scheming Demon
What's Bill Gates number? He owes me! Granted it's not a true depiction of how accurately he's playing, we would need to hear his drums in the mix. I did see a few minor things that were off but only minor things. We do however do not hear his execution and that may be a deciding factor. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt.
Members Old Steve
Rockfan: We're not trying to bust on you. It was a cool video and worth watching. By all appearances, the guy is pretty much spot on with Peart. I just would have been nice if he had mixed in his own drum sound with the recording so that we could see how REALLY spot on he is/was. Still, unless it's you who's doing the drumming, there's nothing you can do about it, right? So thanks for posting the link...it's interesting to watch, and understand that any criticism isn't directed at you, but instead at whoever posted the video in the first place. PLUS I have THEE Neil Peart set, 4 Tama concert toms, 2 Tama gong bass drums, Tama Timbales, a 2 octave MalletKat unit, etc. ALTHOUGH, he does a somewhat decent job at it. He SHOULD learn to play the WHOLE SONG PERFECTLY, BEFORE listing it on the web.

Back in 2001-2002 we had a guy here called synapse2k. He said that he had a lot of drumkits and posted pics of his kits.....the only problem was that all the kits he sent was copied from dws homepage and pasted into this forum. He was lying for many months but no one knew at first. THEREFORE am I a bit sceptic about your statements so far.

My guess is that this kid just put this up on line for the hell of it, not for all of us to critique it. I'm sure as hell not going to claim that I can do it any better or any worse than that guy...frankly I've never learned ANY song note for note...always seemed like a waste of time, IMHO. But, hey, if that's your thing, more power to you. I'd rather create my own thing than spend hours learning to regurgitate somebody else's creations. If you say you can "do it better" than this guy, I'm with portnoyfan...put up or shut up. (let the litany of excuses begin....no camcorder, can't post videos...blah blah blah.)
