Members MoNkEy MaN X
Hi there. I was originally looking at the Mapex Pro M but I think I would like to go with a birch kit, also the M Birch are a little bit less. Also they throw in another tom with the 5 or 6 piece kits which seems like a good deal. Only thing is, none of the local stores carry mapex so I can't give them a test run. At one point I had a Yamaha Birch Custom which was awsome but it costs alot so right now it is out of my price range. Basically looking for some feedback on the M Birch. Thanks in advance. Members slickrick1688
Yeah, the m birch's are great kits. Too bad you cant try them out though. But if you liked the sound of that yamaha, then im sure you cant be too dissapointed with the mapex.

Members deadlysticks
I play an M-birch and have found it to be an excellent kit in all respects. Fit and finish is extremely good on mine, and they sound fantastic. There is also a full line of add ons to help build your kit any way you wish, and as someone else said, the hardware is very good and functional. I'll also add that I've been playing for 28 years now and have had some very high end kits over the years (when I was younger and didn't have a family to suport), and for me the M-birch really holds up to MANY of those kits in a lot of respects, including sound quality. Personally I won't bother buying a higher end kit unless I end up on tour in the future. I just don't see a point in it other than bragging rights when this one sounds/records and looks as good as it does. If the Yamahas you were refering to where the Yamaha recording custom birch kits, well honestly those are a hell of a lot more expensive than the M-Birch and not even close to a fair comparison so I won't, but for what you will give for the Mapex kit you will easily feel like you got much more than you paid for. If the Mapex kit interests you, then I would say buy with confidence. It's top shelf for the price range easily.
Members MoNkEy MaN X
I had the Yamaha Birch Custom Absolutes. Yes, they are a much higher priced set. Which much like you, can't be justified, especially with the wife and kids being around. It looks like I could get the whole 7 piece set for 1100 or so, I'm going with the black forest cherry finish so they charge the extra 100 dollars... Although zzounds sells the 5 piece with the free tom for only 769 dollars and that is for all finishes. That seems like a pretty sweet deal, but I'm still not sure if I want 4 or 5 toms. Members deadlysticks
I like that black forest cherry finish, but it wasn't offered yet when I bought mine. I got the Trans. Saphirre blue.
