Members rockbeat
Never used any, but thinking about getting one. Is it two rings that snap together through the mylar, and then you cut the head out inside the ring? Anyone use them?

Members drmrdude
I think thats the cutter thing. If you're talking about the rings then it's 2 pieces. The first piece has some stickey stuff on one side and you place it where you want on the drumhead. Then with a razor you cut the INSIDE. You gotta make sure you get the hole as round as possible because then its easier to get the other piece on. You just snap it into the other side and there you go. I think they make Holez snapperz which are reusable. Don't know how they work though. Good idea and invention.

Members rockbeat
Thanks guys. I take it that if I got both the Holz rings and the speed cutter it would help insure that I cut the hole perfectly round?
Members agogobill
I use the regular Acme Holes
Members Puck
I have used the holz kits.... you don't need the hole cutter. you take off the drum head and put the back piece in. then that serves as the template for cutting the hole. then you snap on the front ring. out of the 3 different ones I have used, the front rings are really hard to get to snap into place. once they fully lock in you are set, but they don't snap on easy like you would think. also the chrome and chrome colored ones can chip fairly easy. the solid white and black can't chip. Members rockbeat
Dammit! The chrome was what I was wanting. Might just go with the black now.
Members pjb
I have used the brass coloured and chrome coloured ones and they chip easily if a mic touches them. This was mainly due due clumsy sound engineers though. I installed mine without a cutter. I traced a hole and used nail scissors. I double ported my last stock DW reso head with two chrome ports. They were the 4" ones. Bear in mind a lot of kick drum mics do not fit inside a port this size.
