Members Majoria
I checked out a band last night and the drummer cracked his K during the gig. I'll defer to the metal players on this forum, but I personally would stay away from K and K custom for metal. I've seen good luck from Z's but I think others here have not, again I'll let them explain. Medium thickness A's, A Customs, Paiste Rude's, maybe some Sabain AA's would be where I'd start. Your going to get the same response that everybody always gets when they ask this question, and that is to take yourself down to a store and try the cymbals out. Its a personal thing, and every cymbal will sound different. It depends on what you like. Be open, dont look at the brands, but listen to the sound. What I like you might not, and vice versa. Go with your ears first, your pocketbook second, and what people recommend last. Use recommendations as a jumping off point if youd like, but dont let anybodys recommendation take the place of your actually hearing the cymbal. Best of luck. The K crash is a nice cymbal. Doesnt matter what I say though. Do you like it?
Members BLS_1
Get a thicker heavier weight cymbal. Crash i'm assuming you're going for? I'd go with Paiste, Sabian, and zilidijan. I've seen my share of people in punk metal bands or whatever the hell it's called break thin cymbals and are going wtf? this is one cheap {censored}ty cymbal. Wrong. Pick a cymbal that will be able to withstand the beating that you are going to give it.
Members RockBass
I hear that Meinl cymbals can take some abuse, but I haven't experienced it firsthand. New Insult: Don't make me beat you like a thin crash Zildjian.
Members twosticks
I suggest you reread all these responses so far as all of these have said the same thing as I would have said. mraia: very insightful post! I think that is the best approach to buying cymbals! couldn't have said it better! YOUR ears first, YOUR pocketbook second, what others say last. K series Zildjians are made mostly for light to medium hitters. Made for the darker sound, mostly used for Jazz/darker pop/ some country. Are thin to medium thin cymbals. Look for the "ROCK" series in the A. Zilds. Sab. AA or Paiste Rude. Try odd sizes. Meaning a normal crash is 16" try a 17" or a normal big crash is an 18" try a 19". These lines (As,AAs,Rudes) in these brands of cymbals may give you the sound. The rock series may give you the darker or beefier sound you seek. But you must play around first. Also would help if you said what sound you're looking for in a cymbal. Hope this helps...

I know I get very easily caught up in the opinions of others here, due to sheer volume of knowledge thats presented. I think it was DW who was talking about the Gadd Signature crash. So now, what do I do, I start thinking if maybe I should be looking at THAT cymbal too.Its so easy to get swayed, but the best thing is always to go with your ears.
