Saw one of these at a local new/used store and was considering buying it. Anybody have any input on this kit. Guy at store says it was supposed to be similar to one Bonhams kit. 24 kick, 14 snare, 13 mounted, 16 & 18 floors.

My buddy swears by Gretsch drums. They really sing when I play his kit. He has a Catalina birch kit, and maple kit. The Catalina birch kit is probobly one of the best sounding and affordable kits now. Great drums. Those are some big drums though. also, Modern Drummer has a review of those kits from a few months back, try and check it out, from what I remember, they were most impressed by the drums too, I would say, if you want em, hell, get em. Those are some big toms though, and a 24" bass seems a little big to me nowadays. But hey, we all have opinions. go for it....maybe.:D

Thanks 4 the input Sherman. tried to find the MD review online but couldnt get it, but did find some rather bland ones elsewhere. think i'll give it a serious double take if they throw a complete set of ambassdor and emperor heads in(afterall they want $1000). Think it comes with Evans G1's stock. I was a little unclear earlier, it's the 5 piece "Catalina rock" kit, not the 4 piece jazz.

Since it is used, check all the hardware, shells, make sure they are not warped, cracked, ect...check the hoops, try to tune all lugs, and check all the bearing edges, if its used, hell, your payin, you should check all parts of the drum. Look at the inside too, the drums shouldn't be missing any washers or anything. If the drum key has trouble tuning, and detuning a drum, its usually an indication of other problems wrong with the drum, such as a warped shell or bad rim. Bad drum rims, seem to be a common problem on used drums ive found. good luck buddy. :thu: :thu:

i know thoffman plays that exact kit, he's around on here somewhere. i have the catalina ash kit and am extremely pleased with it. i haven't heard anything bad about the catalina line and have been impressed by the sound for the money (especially the ash and maple kits). $1000 sounds pretty high, is that with hardware and cymbals? definitely do some price comparison on musiciansfriend.com or guitar center.

1000??? maybe im way off...but that sounds rather high. Does it include hardware/cymbals? if so...that could balance out, possibly.

i bought a catilina birch about a year ago (almost to the day, actually..2 weeks :) )and payed 550, plus another 100ish for an extra rack tom. used, i would think theyd go for about 400 - 450. MAYBE 500 if theyre nice. but idk. I also had thought the club kit was a step down? but possibly not.

::EDIT::

ps i love my kit...wouldn't trade it for anything under 1000. which, considering, is a decent deal. The gretsch maple kits are nice...and not overly pricey.
