I downloaded their stuff from morpheus the other day. Not my usual taste. Faggy looking band. but that Rev guy can play. I like his playing, his snare is a bit poppy but he has chops. don't mind the songs either....

I like 'em, but I like about everything somewhat rocky and don't care what the musician looks like. Unless it's a pop star, then I hate the music and only care what they (she) looks like.

Anyway, his snare is quite poppy on the last cd. Get's lost in the mix sometimes and sounds pretty good at others.

I like his playing as well.

I've heard good stuff about his playing, but havent heard any of it.

Is it death metal, screamo, emo, or what??

I'll give a listen as long as its not some asshole screaming through the whole song. I hate that stuff.

New cd is mostly singing with a pinch of screaming, older stuff is a toss up between the two.

Ok I just dont like that death metal where the singer just growl/screams the whole song. Not passing judgement, just personal opinion.

Not too heavy, lots of guitar harmonies, reasonably melodic vocals.

Sort of metal pop. think Iron maiden meets good charlotte with a dash of pantera. Ha!

I would check out their new CD (City of Evil), then. Their first two CDs were a lot more growling and screaming, but the singer basically FUBAR'd his voice and they had to change their whole music style.

The Rev is a pretty good drummer. His stuff fits the songs really well. Worth looking into.

I'm a huge fan of this guy and the "City of Evil" album. They brought some of the epic pieces of older metal back to the forefront... it's one of those discs that begs to be listened to from beginning to end, and not as disposable radio tracks.

The Rev... well, at 25, his hand/foot coordination is outstanding, and some of his fills are truly just awesome examples of precise metal drumming. Check out a live clip of his playing and you'll be entertained by the showmanship, as well... I'd label his playing as somewhere between crossing old Lars Ulrich, Mike Portnoy, and some Motley Crue. :D

I love that band! :thu:

They're a total love/hate for me. Really dig a lot of the music and indeed, the drumming is fantastic, but the vocals bring a bit of cheese along for the ride. The falsetto stuff gets old in a hurry. I'd like to check out some of their older stuff if it's different, but I'm also not huge into screaming/howling/grunting stuff either. :(

:(

The older stuff doesn't have growling in it. Has a lot of singing mixed with screaming. I like their 2nd cd Waking the Fallen probably the best.

I had never heard them before seeing them live. Now, I have almost all of their stuff. I told my bro-in-law, who took me to the concert, that my first impression of them was Iron Maiden meets Guns 'n' Roses (which made them A-OK in my book).

Then, I read an interview with them saying their two top influences were...that's right...Maiden and G 'n' R.

I think they're a great band. The Rev (James Sullivan is his real name) was pretty impressive. He needs to work on his stick twirling, though. :D Their lead guitarist is pretty awesome, too.

They have just enough of that old school approach to their music to make me really dig 'em.
