Members 1Crazyguitarist
Just curious if smoking is something that might kill your voice in the long run. Obviously if you smoke like a freight train it could kill you in general, so let's leave out the obvious answers shall we?

Members AluminumNeck
That doesn't help me any. Whats the question ? The answer is yes. The answer is depending on your particular genetic makeup it could cap your range, make you sound really rough, leave you short of breath capacity. But if you want to be Tom Waits. Smoke a carton a day. If not Quit.
Members romvert
Yes it's bad. Some that are really good performers/singers will play percentages, like 70% good voice is enough for them. If your any less of a singer, then... you could be in trouble. Not a good thing in general as it dries one's throat and folds; the older you are the worse the effect. Members 1Crazyguitarist
Bob Dylan smoked and he had great vocals though. That's what gets me. Ha jk. Thanks guys.
Members grace_slick
Kate Bush smoked and it never seemed to affect her. Stevie Nicks smoked and I don't think it affected her. Other things did and her voice wasn't naturally "sweet" anyway to begin with. Blah blah. If you do a search for "smoking" it should return the other thread(s), surely! The HC search function hasn't been worth a {censored} in a while. I actually did a search even after I posted this thread and nothing came up. Hopefully it's something that gets fixed with all these renovations they're doing.
Members Terry Allan Hall
Yes, smoking, even a light habit, will have (at least) a somewhat negative affect on your singing, and the heavier you do so, the worse the negative affect. Thus, I guess the questions are as follows: (1) How much of your singing ability can you spare? (2) How long do you want to be able to sing? My personal answers are (A) I don't feel like I can spare any, and (B) as long as I can continue to live...so I quit many years ago (almost 30), and have no regrets. Just a question of personal priorities, and everyone should go w/ their own choices.
Members Ben Brown
File notches in your guitar strings; pour some bacon grease in your trumpet right before you play; pour cream soda on your keyboard right before the gig; You get the idea? Members LaurenBateman
Smoking in general is not good for your vocals. If you are a singer, it is much much better if you do not smoke than if you do smoke. Not to mention the loads of other benefits you get from not smoking. Great vocals... not great singing. Same goes for John Lydon and Louis Armstrong.
