Ludwig had basically gone bankrupt and under bad management in the past 15 years. They were bought under Conn- instruments recently and their managment is trying to re-establish the brand and Ludwig name. The Accent line is Ludwig's entry-mid line set in hopes of gaining the Pearl Export/old Ludwig Rocker crowd. Asian woods are cheaper, made with cheaper labor. A local shop here is carrying these sets and they look nice. That with what I've read, Ludwig is trying the Accent line to have a decent entry/mid line set that has the stuff drummers will want while keeping costs down. Asian woods are decent but cheaper than USA made woods. I have not played on or heard these sets so I can't say about the sound. My guess is that this is the parent company is rebuilding the line and brand name. GO PLAY them and see if YOU like the sound, that is what matters in the end... Hope this helps..... Members k bollox Posted January 9, 2007 Members Share Posted January 9, 2007 my $.02 twosticks is right about playing the kit. You'll find a good sound, no matter the manufacturer. It all depends on the set up and tuning really. Longevity of the kit is another matter... that being said, I bought the Bonham set up Accent kit. And for $1200 new, it's no entry level kit. I've been playing for over 20 years and was seduced by the 26" bass drum. For the price I find the finishing pretty damn good. All of the hardware on the kit looks like it'll withstand heavy abuse, it's nearly identical to a Gretch kit that's on the market. I'd venture to say they came out of the same factory. it did take me a week or two to get it dialed in, but new is new, the heads need to seat and things needed tightening here and there. And so I can leave my old set at church. So I already have more than decent cymbals (Sabian AA's and Zildjian A's/A custom's) I recently found out more information on the Ddrum Diatribe set. Same stats basically with the same finishes, BUT, their birch is north american... i asked www.funkymunkymusic.com for a price quote and they said it'll be 449$ for 10x7, 12x8, 16x14, 20x18 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I own that entry level kit myself; I didn't want to lay a whole buncha dough down and gamble with the fact if I'll stick with drums or not. The cymbals I got with mine are crap to say the least.
