Yamaha DTXpress for $400?

A friend of mine got his wife a DTXpress because she showed some interest in drumming. Sadly, her interest quickly faded and so did their marriage. He's looking to sell the set, but offered them to me first, for $400 + shipping, because he knows that I drum. This is the original DTXpress (not the II, III, etc.). Is this a good price for the set (purchased several years ago, but not played much)? Is the set decent (i.e., responsive, reliable, no double triggering, etc.)? (I've been more focused on a new accoustic set, which I'll get, but it might be nice to have this set for practicing when the kids are sleeping or when my wife doesn't want to hear the drums, which is most of the time.)

Here Is my friends kit with the DTX. It looks pretty impressive here, but he has it back in storage because it was VERY hard on his wrists while playing.

The newer versions have a slightly softer compound on the pads making a bit easer on your wrists.

Pretty hard to wear those things out, and I know that when they were "new" they were $900-$1000.

$400 isn't a bad price at all, IMHO. As J.A.G. points out, the pads will beat up your wrists much more than newer/better versions, but I'd consider buying it for that price. The way I see it, you can use it as an entry point into electronic drumming. Over time, you can start replacing the pads (probably replace the snare one first since you use it the most) and/or have something that you can use to trigger stuff live, or just use for silent practice.

Not a bad deal at all, IMHO.
