Members ToeJamFootball
Hi, I have decide to convert to a rack setup, I'm getting too many cymbals etc. At the moment there is a Pearl DR110 on ebay for AUD$100(could go higher). Although I could get a new Pearl DR-80 for AUD$200. They both come with 4 clamps. Even though the DR110 is older than the DR80, do you think it would be sturdier/stronger? They pretty much look identical.
Members pjb
Get a second hand ICON if you're going pearl, each side is independently height adjustable
Members Zeromus-X
Not familiar with that model but I bought my Gibraltar one used. Essentially you're buying a couple pieces of metal and some clamps... who cares if it's used?
Members Old Steve
It's hard to wear out a rack, so used is a decent plan. As long as nothing is stripped, it's not like the bars will wear out with use or anything.
Members boomerweps
The DR80 & DR110 have FIXED legs. You can only fold up the sides so it's a large package for hauling when gigging. Also the DR110's clamps are no longer being made AFAIK. Those, and the ones for the DR80 can ONLY take the Pearl standard 7/8" tubing, they won't clamp ANY OTHER system and they only do upright at a 90 degree angle. Factor that into your choice. I'd recommend a used Gibralter (NOT the ancient flip out looking leg braced one) or an ICON. ICON now has a tube top clamp and a fixed and twistable version of their multiclamps.
