Members RumStik
Lay each comic page where you want it, one at a time. Then moisten it lightly with a spray bottle containing a solution of water, (clean water...distilled is best), white glue, (water : glue...about 5 : 1), with a drop or two of liquid dish detergent, (like Joy or Palmolive...not dishwashing machine stuff), mixed in. Comic book paper stock is delicate. Go easy with the moistening...just enough to make it stay where you want it. Don't go all the way around the shell...cover about a third of the shell, then stop, keeping it on top, where gravity will assist in keeping it in place. If the paper buckles and/or wrinkles, you wet it too much...pull it off and replace. Allow the stuff to dry, and it should harden and adhere. After thorough drying, mist-coat with Krylon clear spray, or a comparable spray-can clearcoat. I'd use a matte clear at this stage...not gloss. Mist-coat it at least 3 times, allowing about 20 minutes between coats, making sure to coat lightly but thoroughly, especially on the edges. Turn the shell and repeat all on the next third...then the last third...each time, overlapping the previously lain edges, of course. Then hang the shell and clear coat. Here again, I'd use something like Krylon clear...probably gloss now...if a glossy end-finish is what you want. Repeated thin coats work best...gradually building up a deep clear coat. You can sand between coats, if you want. Just make sure it's dry before you sand, and use 600 grit or finer paper. Be patient. let those coats dry, and make sure you don't trap any moisture beneath them. It's an interesting idea...a comic wrap... If you're patient and careful enough, it could come out really cool. Good luck. Take pictures. Post 'em here.
Members Carminemw
You can't get better instructional ideas than that. Nice going Rum! Kind of like decoupage...now there's a lost term now-a-days... I made 2 original city kid skate boxes for my granddaughters the very same way. That comic book paper is very pourus though and you'll have to watch carefully about the inks running with all the moisture...
