"Meg White is suffering from acute anxiety and is unable to travel at this time."

Hmmm, I wonder if it's because she suddenly realized she gets on stage every night in front of 20,000 people sitting behind an instrument she doesn't know how to play.

I like her. and I'll tell you why. She has a very clever knack for placing different beats in different places ie a snare beat where a bass "should" be or vise versa. I think it sounds totaly cool.

And so what if she's not that good....plenty of {censored}ty famaous drummers....Peter Criss anyone? I won't begrudge them their fame.

Bull{censored}. Peter Criss would have walked all over Meg White back when Kiss were in. Why is Criss always jumped on? He outplays plenty of other famous drummers who slip right under the radar.

I watched a video of her playing and the way she holds the sticks and her rebound just look awful. Criss was much more fluid compared to her.

Anyway... I'd go see the Stripes if somebody gave me money for alcohol, paid for my ticket and gave me a bonus 500$.

I need to be paid for that waste of time!

Not to mention that group's backstory is a bigger lie than everything Nikki Sixx claims.

Bonzo I never said meg was better than peter. I said that peter criss sucks. And he does.

I went to a kiss concert when they put back on the make up for the first time and a non musician friend of mine said after his drum solo in all seriousness "So you think you could do that?" And my guitarist friend looked at me and I him and said "uh...yeah".

He was terrible......okay he could keep time (something meg struggles with) but other than that he was really crappy. Oh and yes I have tons of old kiss records so I do know what they were about.

Its funny that their is so much WS bashing here cause basically Jack White is about the ONLY person in popular music today keeping the blues alive and bringing it to a huge audience. If you think the WS are indie rock you obviously haven't really listened to them.

I was using their current pop-culture label - I listen to real blues. I live in Chicago. I play real blues. I don't have to meet your standards of labeling. The White Stripes are not blues. Nobody has bashed the White Stripes' music in this post. Only the drummer, who is not good. If the drummer is half of the band, and the drummer sucks, then 50% of the music sucks.

Also, why should anybody give a {censored} about somebody suffering from anxiety. Why should I make a special allotment of my feelings or emotions about somebody who can't keep their {censored} together? Yeah, I'm unfeeling and heartless. So what? White Stripes, their drummer and their guitarist are not special and not worthy of the praise they are given. Rehashing what you call "Blues" and dressing like fools, that's not music. It's a masquerade.

That you or I "could do that" does not mean Criss sucks! He keeps time well enough, his solos are not highly technical but they ARE musical and exciting.... I would not say Criss is great, but he certainly does NOT suck.

Clearly something is wrong you guys. Someone get to bashing this {censored}ty band!

I'll step up. Don't say I never did anything for you. :)

HOW ON EARTH DO BANDS LIKE THIS GET MAJOR LABEL DEALS. Ok, here's the problem...they have 3 songs that really work. The first single - "Fell In Love with a Girl", the one you CANNOT get out of your head - "Seven Nations Army", and the new one is slightly better than OK - "Icky Thump."

But have you heard the rest of the crap that comes out of them? Why the hell would ANYONE want to listen to Jolene? It's utter crap. Now look, I know that the music business is a singles business now...and maybe always has been except for a short period in the mid-to-late 70's. But the question still remains: how does an A&R guy manage to walk into the bar at just the right time to hear the one good song among the 8 terrible, horrible, no-good, very bad day songs?

Oh, and Meg can't play drums.

/rant.

I'm thinking that you have absolutely no idea what you're talking about in regards to the White Stripes. Jack White has publically admitted, on numerous occasions, that Meg's lack of skill is an intentional and integral part of their music. She doesn't practice at all... like... AT ALL. Their entire sound is about being unrefined and loose. This makes her less than admirable drumming skills a function of their sound. Sure, you can say "that sound sucks" and that's fine, but you're trying to compare a band who is intentionally unrefined to professional blues bands who are all about accuracy and consistancy. Not everything with the word 'blues' attached to it claims to be a traditional blues band...

Also, If you've ever suffered from any kind of anxiety disorder you'd know that it's not as black and white (pun intended) as you'd like to think. I'm not asking you to be compassionate, but I am asking you to withhold your opinions about that which you don't understand.

Deliberate crappiness MIGHT work for Jack White. But it does not work for this particular listener.

Deliberate crappiness from non-musicians. Now White Stripes is 100% {censored}ty.

"Somewhere, far, far away, there's a {censored}ty island. An island without a name. An island not worth giving a name. A {censored}ty island with a {censored}ty shape. On this {censored}ty island grow palm trees that also have {censored}ty shapes. And the palm trees produce coconuts that give off a {censored}ty smell. {censored}ty monkeys live in the trees, and they love to eat these {censored}ty-smelling coconuts, after which they {censored} the world's foulest {censored}. The {censored} falls on the ground and builds up {censored}ty mounds, making the {censored}ty palm trees that grow on them even {censored}tier. It's an endless cycle." - Haruki Murakami

Ooh, ooh! I want to FINALLY say something that may piss people off here. Y'all know I'm a friendly guy, but I draw a line with the White Stripes, and here's why:

I'm surprised hard working, dedicated musicians who practice dilligently and work very hard to acquire skill can be so hyporcritical as to support the White Stripes' success.

Aight, I'm done. That was fun. :D

It doesn't take a technically proficient musician to make great music. I'm not voicing my opinion one way or another about the White Stripes, but from a label perspective... they are looking to sell records, not check to see how fast the drummer can do a single stroke roll. If they can sell records with an artist, then that's all they really care about and there is nothing wrong with that.

If there were web forums around from the 50's to the 80's, there would probably be a lot of posts about how Ringo Star sucks. However... that didn't stop the Beatles from making great music.

ATTENTION FELLOW DRUMMERS: The Secret to Success has been revealed, and it's very simple... don't practice, don't hone your craft, don't progress... be deliberately crappy and you too can achieve international fame and fortune!!

this concept makes me want to vomit

Oh, and for the record, I've been in therapy for over a year now for anxiety and depression and yet, I still can go play a show in some random bar... I think I might even be able to survive playing to a few thousand people... gimme a damned break
