Members BBDrums
I was considering internal mounting for my audix mics. Anyone use them or have any experience with them? Has anyone made there own internal mic mounts out of metal or wood?
Members k7mto
I'd been looking into doing the same as well but other things took priority (for now). I like the way this guy built mounts for his and would likely follow the same general principal (beginning with pic #5 or so on the page)... http://s93.photobucket.com/albums/l53/Agogobell/?start=40 Research has found you for best sound the mic should point toward the reso head and be about 2-3 inches from the head itself. You can have the mount use existing lug mount screws/bolts and route the cable out the vent hole to avoid drilling new holes in your drums. If/when I do it, I'll likely drill a hole and hard wire the mic to a drum mounted jack so I could simply "plug in" the drum, as one would plug in a guitar. The main concern I have is how well the mount will hold up over time, given the thinness of the shells. Mounting with just a lug screw/bolt seems flimsy. Maybe sandwiching the shell with small metal plates would spread the load and be more secure over time. Let us know what you do and how it turns out - with pics!
