Members bonerdestroyer
i've recently seen some bands whose drummers were using drumsticks that had no tips. both sides looked like the handle side of the drumstick, it didnt get skinnier at the end. anyone know where i can find these kinds of sticks, or what their proper name is? Members 1001gear
You must mean the Seamless Dual Continuous Butt Reference Series models. Here's a pair.http://www.vater.com/newproducts/product.cfm?M=26 Vic Firth, ProMark, Zildjian and anyone else who makes sticks should have a model. Timbale sticks is the only specific reference I can think of although these 'Rock Bashers' are anything but timbale sticks which are quite a bit lighter and thinner. Members marko46
If you play rock, and no intricate cymbal, whiz-bang-pop-chick things, they're great. I've had two sets of VF's just to use on straight ahead driving tunes, and after while they just start to splinter with the grain.
Members DW_Man_TX
I used to use them years ago, they were made by Zildjian. That was back when I was playing 80s metal. I have not played anything heavy enough to warrant them for many years.
Members nklarow
Aren't those sometimes called "Backbeat" sticks?
Members FitchFY
I'm relatively sure Morgan Rose (Sevendust) has a signature pair of sticks from Vater that are like that, as well. Personally, I think they're a travesty, but I'm old school.
Members WillyRay
If they're thick like a 5b, then I think the guys are right on. If they're closer to a 7a, I think it's more likely they're timbale sticks. /w

I've probably got enough of his sticks to play a year's worth of shows on... been to a lot of 7D shows and caught a lot of sticks! Then again they're so freakin big "a year's worth of shows" could be one pair.

I had one pair of those. They lasted me a week. The Zildjians last me slightly more than a week.
Members Living Dead Drummer
Alex Van Halen used to used a stick called "Power Rock" by Regal Tip, I know they make those still... It's about a 5A size.

Members marko46
I don't know, but all these sticks look like they would eat cymbals? No. if they eat cymbals, it's a technique issue. I had used them way back in the 70's, I think they were called "Rocker Knockers" and may have been Pro-Marks. Any way, for a rock or metal application, they're fine, For jazz, blues, or prog -not so much. I play nylon tips any other time, and thats most of the time actually. They have there place.
