Members sunspot
Ok it's not mine, it's my sons:cool: but I'm smilling from ear to ear right now. Rigel is 3 and he got this drumset for his 4th birthday(that's in March). Mom said not to wait, he needs to play it now.. I said ok. I told him to sit down and play and you could see the wheels turnin. He counted out loud "1, 2, 3, 4" and began to play 1,2-- 1,2---1,2,3,4,5. He played 1,2 on the tom then 1,2 on something else then 1,2,3,4,5 on another instrument. Yes, he played 1,2,3,4,5 with his foot!!!!! He then continued to play combinations as he looked at the tv because there was music playing. He stopped for a moment and tried to latch onto the rhythm that was coming from the tv. That was too difficult so he began to play single notes on all the instruments. He continued to play more combinations, then he played a roll on the cymbal THAT INCREASED IN SPEED/VOLUME!!! then ended the whole thing hitting the cymbal and bass drum at the same time. He then put the sticks together in his hands and smilled. What a great moment I thought, but it gets better. I thought I better get this on tape so I grabbed the camera and told him to play again. He played something different but very close to what he'd played before. I wanted to watch it cause I was so proud, so I plugged the camera into the tv. I started the video and was asking my wife what do you think? When she started to talk, Rigel began playing the exact same phrases from the video ... and it was in time. My wife and I looked at each other in awe. He knew what he had played before and was able to duplicate it. All I can say is wow!!! He comes into the room when I'm playing and sometimes likes to sit in my lap, but I've never sat down with him to show him anything. We're going to have to work on his posing. He always looks like he has to go to the bathroom!!!

Members New Wave Bob
You know, I'm always getting crap from the wife because my kid can't hit at little league. But...I got him a little 5 pc when he was three, wih a 16" bass drum an 8", 10", and 13" fl. (Blue sparkle too!) We jammed a lot and I taught him how to play beats and I totally stressed the time factor. I wouldn't let him just bang around with no purpose. Any way, he's 13 now, has been in the Berklee Saturday program into his third year. (They let him in at 5th grade because he was good enough.) They taught him to read better than I ever did. Theory too! He got into the Jazz band at the Boston Latin school and two weeks ago auditioned for the Districts and got the gig. (I'm a roadie now.) He doesn't even like baseball anymore. He's also picking up guitar and he's dedicated. He's picking up Tabs off the net and playing me songs from "Queensryche." I know what it's like to be a proud Poppa. Keep him playing man.Peace,BOB:thu:

I hope you got a pic with them on. I like this: http://www.rockabilia.com/product.php?productid=63847&cat=2780&page=

Peace, BOB:thu: For me it's like passing on the keys to the doors of the family business to my granddaughter. I already passed on my Macintosh computer experience to my stepson who decided to get into Macintosh criminal computer forensics, and became a leader in his field at the High Tech Crime Unit. By the way...he now travels the globe teaching computer forensics and computer antiterrosim techniques. It's now Jenna's turn and my challenge to give her a good start... Sun...let him play, let him probe...and most of all, let him watch and learn...
Members BroadST
That is awesome Sun. I know how you must feel. In the very least, you are teaching him to love music. Like Carm says, passing on the keys. Whip, I got my daughter one of those right from Metallica's site a few years ago. She still has it somewhere although its too small now. Members slddrummer
That kid is going to be incredible I wish I would have started earlier with drums. I didn't really get into until I was 15.
Members Wellhungarian
I have a 17 year old son who plays sax, guitar and piano and never showed any interest in drums until lately. I'm curious to see what he can do instinctively, since he's heard drums around the house since he was born.
