Well first off thanks for those that helped me out with info on the Grestch sets.

I just got my Gretsch New Classics (10, 12, 14, 22, 5x14 matching snare) in the Vintage Glass (pics to come soon). They are gorgeous... this finish is absolutely stunning and the drums have a warm, resonant and round tone. Will comment more on these once I break the heads in more and get them tuned perfectly.

All the drums tuned up fine (I just used the DrumDial to get me close and finish by ear). I am having a lot of trouble with the floor tom - I keep getting one lug that reads high even with the tension backed right out. When I tap that lug it is also higher pitch than the rest and I can't loosen it anymore!! Does this mean the hoop is warped or the head is not seating right?? HELP!!!!!!

Congrats on the new kit!

One quick way to find out...remove the hoop and turn it 180 degrees. Leave the head in the same position. Does the problem follow the lug or stay with the same part of the head?

Try different head/hoop positions to confirm if problem follows the hoop or the head (mark the head location if necessary).

Please let me know what you find out about the floor tom. I'm interested in buying one of these kits as well.

That kit is kickin and resonant as hell. I prefered the marine and the cherry. The cherry is really rich looking while the sparkle and the marine is more old school...

take off the rim and head. set the drum on the edge with the problem..on a known flat surface. check for daylight between the flat suface and the edge.

You could be suffering from Gretschitis...I cant see this happening on a set like you have...those be some happenin' cans! Now... If they were Catalinas????:poke:

* could be a *gulp* bad bearing edge~
