Members drummer3323
I am a drummer that is good at doing regular speed rolls, on both snare and snare with toms. But, whenever i try to speed them up, i cant do it or i lose hand control. tips??
Members 1001gear
Do all your rolls as single stroke rolls. And be patient. Imagine getting a robot to play drums. You'd have to program every last detail of everything pertinent. So start on them quarter notes immediately.
Members cearleywine
for rolls I think the best thing to practice is double strokes, making sure they are even at all speeds.
Members boomboomdrums
I'm working on the same thing now. Here's what I suggest. Set your metronome on 140. These will be 1/8 notes. So really it's 70bpm. Play 1/16 notes. Play for 1 measure: 1e&a 2e&a 3e&a 4e&aThen in the next measure do double strokes on all 1 and &s, then another measure of 1/16s. Then do the same but on every other measure play doubles on e and as. Then do the same every measure doubling every stroke. Then when you feel good, go up to 142. Repeat. Each day go up 8 or 10. The next day go back a few and repeat. So, on the 1st day to 140 - 150. Then on the 2nd day do 144-154. This should take 15 minutes or so to work through. If you do this everyday, after a month or two your double stroke roll should be a lot better. It's worked wonders for mine.

Also play them perfectly as fast as you can perfectlyfor as long as you can.don't count bars ,notes or anything, but mins.10mins if possible perfectly.Do this as a warm up exercise, play loose, when you tighten up stop, your makin bad habits, play loose always---hope this helps
