Members jenksdrummer
Hit MF today, the Evans hazy 300 14", I know was $9.99 just a few months ago. Now it's $13.99. Honestly, is there really that much to it? A strip of aluminum, some mylar and a press that's been in operation for decades... The falling dollar SUCKS! WTF can be done... Members e-b-e
The weak dollar, and gas prices are rising the prices on everything. I wish that head cost 9.99 still, thats a very fair price. Music gear is still one of those things I'll continue to buy no matter what the price, if its something I really want (or need). If I need it, I buy it. Whether or not the price is "too high". I may shop around, but I still buy.
Members devinw
Yeah material pricing is going through the roof due to gas prices. I recycled clean some stainless steel 6 months ago at 90 cents per pound. I went back recently and it was $1.14 a pound...and rising! Aluminum is the same way. Members drumtechdad
Tell me about it. 7-piece kit, reheaded the toms recently recently for about $150, bass drum for about $85. Cheapest prices I've seen on heads are at Drumsonsale.com, and I've had very good experiences with them. Fast service, too.
Members Jarick
Great time to learn to play a bit lighter, switch to a bit thinner sticks, and seat the heads properly.

Members 1001gear
Speaking of Rons, I mighta suggested this before. The RONCO Drumhead Press. That's right, make 'em yourself in your spare time or even when you're busy. It doesn't matter you have no choice. Tired of air drumming? Think Ronco... Members SYMBOLIC
I suggest shopping around. MF says they have the "best" prices, but my local store kills them everyday of the week. I just reheaded my toms, and I got the batters and reso's (EC2 and black glass resos) for my 10, 12, 14, 16 for $100 out the door. It may be due to the fact that they know me, but all their prices beat MF by $2-3, and the EC2 pack that I got beat MF by $15. So shop around. You may find better prices. Most of the places around here either match MF's price, or are more expensive with the idea of "you want it now, you pay more"... Plus tax (roughly 8.175% here)

You can be a smart ass if you want, but it's sound advice. I used to go through bricks of super 2B's, went through Evans ST's every couple months, re-head every few months all around the kit, destroy 2-ply kick heads, crack crashes every few months, etc. Now I'm using super jazz sticks, rarely break sticks, single ply heads, rarely re-head, don't destroy anything. You can still play the drums, you don't have to beat them Oh, and I'm all for Ron Paul. That would help as well

Members nickg
if you can't afford to buy heads, cymbals, sticks, etc., when you need them then take up the harmonica. playing drums ain't for cheapskates or frugal mcdugals in the long run. Members Bitter Dawn
Come to Canada? Things in Canada seem to be a bit more expensive, especially gas. Then again I grew up/lived in the lower mainland of B.C. for 20+ years and the tax was 14.5%. Despite that the minimum wage is $8.70 or so, it still doesn't even out very well. I actually bought an Evans G2 for my snare yesterday and I was expecting to pay more than $13, which didn't seem all that expensive to me. But from what drumtechdad said, I can understand that overall it could be expensive to re-head an entire kit. Just like a car though, if you can afford to buy it then you should be able to afford the maintenance.

Well, in Alberta now we only have a 5% tax, and now that we have parity with the US dollar prices are beginning to fall.

I was fairly certain that Alberta had a lower tax, but I haven't been in Canada for three years now. Ah, I kinda miss it there...the US is okay. Everything you buy comes on a truck. Gas goes up, everything goes up. That's why those politicians who propose imposing a huge gas tax to reduce consumption have no clue what havoc it would cause. Members Bitter Dawn
It's alright once you get used to the thought police. Yeah, everyone is still concerned about the government listening in on phone calls especially international. Not that I'm concerned when talking to family and friends in Canada, and I've always held a hatred for American media and just the government itself, too many conspiracies in this nations history...my wife and I would much rather live in Canada. But anyways, back to the topic - sorry everyone.
Members Zeromus-X
Now I'm using super jazz sticks, rarely break sticks, single ply heads, rarely re-head, don't destroy anything. I often gig 3-4 nights a week, with a bare minimum of twice a week, for four hours a night. I don't care how light you play or what size sticks you use, if I "rarely re-head", I'm going to sound like crap pretty quickly. Well, moreso, anyway! If costs keep going up I'll just trigger the damn kit, then it doesn't matter what the heads sound like. drumtechdad mentioned $150 + $85 to re-head his kit... $99 for a set of Pintech triggers and $200 bucks for a used D4 or DM5... only with the latter option, you never have to worry about replacing heads again (unless you play right through 'em of course). Members jenksdrummer
Spoken as a true right-winger. It costs me $6.25 to go to work every day. It's an unavoidable cost. Groceries are delivered by truck...that's an unavoidable cost. Those unavoidable costs means that the consumer, not the businesses that depend on the fuel to deliver the goods, absorb the cost. The end result would be a severe backlash on the prices of goods from top to bottom. Add that to the falling dollar, and we likely will witness the fall of the USA as a Superpower...and sadly, into beign a 3rd world country within a matter of a couple years...
