Members BenG
So me and my singer/guitarist met up with one of his other friends and we want to start another band. We had the first rehearsal today ,and for me, i did NOT perform to the best of my abilities what-so-ever. Don't you hate those days when you just don't feel so good about drumming? What do you guys do to recuperate? I know its not a big deal or anything; and I'm not questioning my abilities as a drummer, I just want to know what you guys do when you have these days; or even if you DO have these days. Members marko46
Yea Ben, I have 'em once in a while. Can't really explain why, some days are just "off" I guess. As far as what I do after words, I just shake it off, after beating myself up for a bit, go back the next time and have another go at it. Typically, it's not a repetitive deal and I'm back to my old self. I'd say we all have days like that if we're honest about it. You'll be fine next rehearsal. Later:thu:
Members cearleywine
I definitely have bad days, you wouldn't be human without them. Sometimes I think it's just lack of hydration that triggers it. What helps me is when I get distracted from doing the same {censored} I try to only listen to the other performers and most of the time my limbs will natural fill in the groove. Sometimes you have to let the other guys support you a little until you're back up to communicating on the level. If you're not adding to the music you are subtracting, sometimes playing less is exactly what's called for. And the worst thing you can do is be negative while trying to create music, it will always sound that way.
Members Walt Disney
Yup. Just keep at it. I find that if i feel like things aren't feeling right, arriving an hour early and kicking out the jams by myself helps. Peter
Members FullerBrushMan
I been playin' a long time and I have worked with some singer/songwriters that NO-ONE could ever play along to..... W/O having their every breath and sylable and counter intuitive herky-jerky spastic wrong-headed musical move programmed into my brain whilst I hang on the edge of my seat and their every move in order to make it work - NO THANKS! I'll pass. I only wanna play with musicians-not some original fool who wants to try to pass hisself off as one.
Members manoeuver
I usually dwell on it for a few days until I can convince myself it's someone else's fault.

Members k7mto
Rehearsals can be mundane and boring sometimes. Nothing better for a bad rehearsal than a great show! The best cure for me is to play for an audience.
Members drummandamn
Record your practices and listen to it all the time you won't have any off days. Thats what always helped me!
Members Merlin Coryell
I WOULD just choose to be in denial and say that I didnt have a suck day, but honestly its never come up; I have never, ever had a bad day and each time I play I perform 34% better than the previous time. BTW: Keep an eye out for my new book/DVD in conjunction with Jens Hannemann.

Members sunspot
As long as your bad days are always out weighed by the good ones, you're doin just fine. my .02....first rehearsal, you put a lot of pressure on yourself. wanting to make a good impression for the first go round. Go do a work out and some grappling before the next session. Get all that out of your system.

Just a 34% improvement , meh.....if you aren't 42% better every time you play your just another carbon based life form flailing along through a meaningless life , subconsciously wishing we'd all go back to the trees and pick bugs from one another's hair. Let me know when you've reached an average of 39.8% then there might be hope for you.

Members 2xBass
Drink a glass of water, slap myself, and think "Why didn't I play 100%" After I obtain an answer, I go to my set and play till I play up to where I should be at
Members RumStik
...but i also hate it when i have a bad day while playing with a new person. Yeah, that happened to me a couple times.
