Members tomyco
Can someone educate me on hardware, I'm pretty close to making a decision between two drum kits, 5 pc Tama Starclassic Performer or 5 pc Mapex Pro M. They both do not include hardware. I don't think and can't afford the very best, but certainly do not want garbage. Please leave as much detail as possible, model #, series, etc. What do I need what don''t I need etc. Thanks! Members TamaDrummer0
U ppl might hate me but all I use is Tama hardware. It is extreamly realiable and fairly cheap. For cymbals I would get the Tama stage master double braced boom stand (if you want it to be a straight stand just slide the arm into the stand) I use a Iron cobra high-hat stand (best stand I ever used). If your looking for petals you should try out a bunch at the store see whats more confortable. Hope this helps. Btw the Tama starclassic sounds prretty nice. Members cheeseadiddle
dw probably makes the nicest stands pedals. It's easy to get parts for them, and there are light/heavy models, although I think the only truly light weight stands they make are the 6000 series flat base stands. The Tama Roadpro stands are good stands, but heavy as hell. I got rid of mine for that reason alone. Five cymbals stands and my hardware bag was an unmovable object that had moons orbiting around it. Those are about the only two I have any real experience with. The cheap {censored} is just that. Cheap {censored}. You'll be replacing it long before you'd replace a dw stand. Members zildjian@consol
They sell hareware kits on ebay, i think they have everything you need, i would spend the highest I could afford. Good hareware will out last your shells. Most brands have both crap and the good stuff quess witch one costs more.

Members drumtechdad
The Tama stuff is terrific, if you get the Tama set it's a no-brainer. I myself use mostly Pearl 1000-series stuff, I like the optimounts (no bouncy toms) and I've decided I can't live without unilock tilters and tom mounts anymore. BUT . . . I have a fifteen year-old to carry it. Cheese's point cannot be emphacized enough.

Members polarnewfie
DW makes great stuff. I have had 2 boom stands before and you can just feel the quality. Unfortunately sold them with a long gone kit. I think the Tama stands I have now, are as cheese said, HEAVY as hell, but I can guarantee they wont wilt, fall, fold, strip. I hang several heavy 6 ply ludwig toms from them when I am not using the rack, and they are rock solid. I had to combat the heaviness by building a rolling hardware box. Just built a frame and used 3/4 inch plywood. Put handles on the ends and a lock on the top. Used good wheels and now I roll my hardware/stool/cymbals/sticks/extra heads/extra parts all in one case into the gig, and roll it out in the end. It made the heavy stands light as {censored}. I just need one person to grab an end to lift it in the truck and lift it out. Most of the hardware made today from the big makers are good quality. As said before, get the best you can afford. The tama stuff is alien invasion proof. I pretty much hate their drums, but worship their hardware
Members Cross Eyed Mary
Suprisingly enough i've had very good results with those $42 PDP booms. There's not alot of bells and whistles but it holds my cymbal where i want it and doesn't fall over...that's all i really ask of my stands. More than likely i'll end up getting about 3 of those Ludwig single braced straight stands and calling it a day.
Members MnL
-Tama stuff is usually never bad, but can be a little pricey, and a little heavy.-DW stuff is good, same with the cheaper PDP stuff, but you gotta be careful with really low end PDP stuff, and you sometimes pay a bit too much for the high end DW hardware.-Pearl stuff is good, but some of the 2000 series stuff is a little over the top, and can be slightly heavy Generally, if it's from a decent company, you should be fine. Just stay the hell away from the stands that dont' have gear/unilock tilteres (the ones wit the little hardware store wingnuts).
Members Chunkaway
Despite other's comments, I'm not such a fan of DW's stands. They are fine, but I just prefer the simplicity and ease of Yamaha's stands. Solid, always work, decently priced, etc... Their mid-level line is at least as good as most other manufacturer's high-level gear.

Members Risky
I have several of the DW 6000 stands and love 'em. I also have several Yamaha and love them also. My last experience with Tama, admittedly 20 years ago, was awful. They weighed a ton and all the rubber melted at the tilts. They did live in a truck, so the heat was high. I'm a kinda big guy, 6'3", 225 lbs, and I have never knocked over a stand while playing, regardless of what brand, so I now go for lite weight. Members siberian
I've used Tama, DW and Gibraltar hardware. The Tama stuff I had lasted for years, and just eventually wore out from use. The only DW piece of hardware I have ever owned is a snare stand, and honestly I'm a little disappointed in it. The main tube that adjusts the height went out of round and doesn't slide up and down very easily. It looks like the tube has a thin wall and couldn't hold up to the pressure when I tightened the memory clamp on it. Personally, I really like Gibraltar hardware, especially for the money. Very strong, well made, and sturdy.

Members cearleywine
DON'T BUY LUDWIG STANDS. It's really the only hardware I can say truly sucks. I've had multiple problems on multiple stands, spurs, and leg brackets with stripping and bending. My local shop owner told me that post 90's Ludwig uses a metal formula that is more aerated to make more profit. I'd actually rather be stuck with Pulse stands than the pro series of Ludwig. I still like their drums though.
Members nbabmf
I'm using Gibraltar 8600 series stands with the flat bases all around, and my kick pedal is the Avenger. I like their stuff.
