Why is this particular cymbal so highly sought after? is it because of its rarity sence production ceased in the 80s or is it just because of it's musical characteristic as a all around multi cymbal. There's a ride going on ebay at this moment for $700 plus a while back a 2002 paper thin crash went for over $2000,what am I missing here. I watch ebay on a regular basis and I've never seen a zildjian nor sabian come any where near the dollar signs of these bidding wars on pasite cymbals

It's a combination of sound characteristics and the fact that they are no longer produced. I've seen 50's/60's Constantinoples go for $1200+; it doesn't happen often, but every once in a while those rare cymbals will start a bidding war.

On a side note if you're looking for a good set of multi cymbals, by all means look into the reissued Giant Beats.
