Members Carminemw
OK...I wanna cut back on the wash of my ride just a tad. In the olden days, I just slapped a piece of DT across the grooves and it not only cut down on the swell, but helped acentuate the ping. What's today's new modern age remedy... Members Chefmike8888
Bar napkin? :poke:I would think a little tape is still "in". Mike
Members polarnewfie
Tape still works for me, but I have often been tempted to try the moon gels just so that I didn't have to deal with the goo residue left by tape. Then if you use "googone" or some other solvent to rid the glue residue, then the rest of the cymbal is now dirtier than the area you just cleaned, and it looks like crap. Try a moon gel and let me know if it works. I am in a place that doesnt sell the gels anywhere so I am stuck with napkins and tape.

Last year a thread was posted about some sort of window blood being made of the same stuff, but a hell of a lot cheaper, and all you have to do is cut it... Members cheeseadiddle
Moongel has always deadened the cymbal too much for my tastes. I'd try a small piece of gaff.
Members 1001gear
Dab some undoable glue around the thing until you get it right. Virtual hammering.
Members cearleywine
I put a small strip of duct tape underneath and near the bell of my medium thin 19". It has rivets so I didn't want it crashing too easy while riding it hard. It works a lot better for me now.
Members drumtechdad
I still use a little gaffer's tape on my 60s-era Zildjian ride. When I was young and stupid I used duct tape and the residue is still there. Don't. Just don't. Get the real thing. Carm, try real gaffer's tape, say 4" strips with one end folded over 1/4" so you can remove it easily. Try a strip in different places and different orientations--parallel to the lathing or across it, on the bow, near the edge, one of each maybe, etc. You'll get that ride just how you like it. If I could find a ride that was dark, dry, pingy, possessed of a magnificent bell, crashed well, and didn't cost a mortgage payment, I'd get one. Those requirements seem to be mutually exclusive.
