I still have my Pearl Masters kit for sale, and since the local GC gave me a good price on my Tama kit last year I brought the Masters in to see if they wanted to buy them.

I told the sales guy I had a Pearl Masters shell pack I wanted to sell.He said hang on, I'll go get the manager. No problem. The manager comes back, and I again describe the drums(they are still in SUV)and again I use the term "shell pack". To me, this means drums without hardware.

He says "Sir, we can't buy the drums if they don't have heads on them"

Am I crazy,or is it ok for me to still be wondering WTF ?

Tell me you busted out laughing and walked away. I would have lost it laughing.

I realize there are some very ignorant/stupid employees in GC, or Smash for that matter, but this is a manager?

Probably only requirement for a management position is you're willing to blow thee boss and complete returns correctly.

I think your first mistake was to go to GC. The second mistake was using complex and confusing terminology like "shell pack." I'm surprised they didn't come back and tell you that they didn't sell shells or any other sea life for that matter.

Not only is it pitarted to think shell-pack means headless drums, but they probably get drum heads at uber low costs due to purchase volume, so why the hell wouldn't GC take shells with no heads, if that was indeed the case? He makes it sound like you rendered them defective by not having heads on them (even though you did, of course.) :freak:

Another reason to hate GC with a mofo passion. :thu:

This is why I don't shop at Guitar Center anymore, and why I'm mad at the local music store for not hiring me. They said I didn't have any "retail" experience so that's why I didn't get it. So they probably hired some shmoe that worked at Target that has no knowledge or love of music instead.

Last time I was in Guitar Center, I asked the guy "Can I see the Omar Hakim snare?" He looked confused, and then walked over to the snares and starts looking at every single one trying to find it. So I politely tell him where it is. How can you sell things you have no knowledge about!?!? If I was to ever work at a music store, the first couple of days would be spent learning about each drum, cymbal, stand, hardware, accessory, stick there.

i found myself in gc tonight since I was on that side of town "heck might as well!" I said to myself, as I AM in the market for a new kit. I had a guy recommend a 3 pc PEarl MCX over a tama starclassic, and then continue to tell me that a superstar labeled maple was an "all birch shell pack" but hey, I can't complain, at least my salesman knew what a shell pack was!

Brutal. Guy was probably selling cars last week.

Stop and think about this quote: could very well be true. ;)

In this past year I have had to buy a Pool Pump, a home AC/ Heating unit, used cars, have been looking a newer homes or upgrading our home and have shopped around at many music stores. Is like they ALL have swallowed the same sales training manuals.

"This is a very good brand and has been in business since...."

" Our Company has done research and has found..."

" This product carries a ____warranty and is good with any ____dealers"

" This is same thing that this pro or that pro uses"

" This one is the one I have in my home"

" I bought/my wife bought this one and she is very happy with it"

I can just tell when they start rattling off these lines, the worst of it when you sit with the salesperson and they call up the manufacter. "Hello, I have Mr. Sticks with me in the office and he's looking at the X model and he wants to know if gets X model, can he get Y toppings??" (speakerphone) " It shouldn't be no problem, that X model is a nice model and the Y toppings would be very nice on that X model, my sister has that..." IS a ten foot snowdrift in Florida with the snowjob on that one...

More to the point, well Hardware does also mean the rims, lugs and screws..... didn't you pay attention at the last sales meeting??:poke:

I'd take the MCX over the Starclassic any day. And Superstars aren't maple.
