Members pinhigh
yes,i just started drumming so they are my first decent hats.i had cb percussion hats that were just mauled.the alphas are not the most expensive hats but to me they sound great.i tested out the sabian aax or somtin like that and it wasnt as crisp.the only thing that had the same chick sound were much more expensive.if i get good enough to buy a new set i will, until then i will settle with mid grade. im gonna hijack my own thread here. i need a ride cymbal to complete my basic setup.i think i need something heavy.i am using my 18" paiste thin crash as a ride but it crashes really easy.will a heavy ride stay more in place? Look at 22' Paragon rides, very clear ,loud and cutting bell. It's a great live cymbal and records very well.Very nice ping and a controllable wash- you can keep it low or you can make it roar and somewhat crashable- it you hit it hard.8 1/2 to 9 lbs and is indestructible.About 200$ used on ebay.might seem a little high but you'll like it
Members 1001gear
Some advice on the ride. Try standard med. rides. Learn to control the dynamics and wash. You can then move on to thicker stuff for the new colors.
Members twosticks
Glad you're happy with the hats! On the ride, might look for something dry. Dry means it has good stick definition (can hear when the stick hits all over the cymbal) Has limited wash (that "crashy" sound that bleeds over until the next time you hit it.) But it isn't so heavy that it's "clunky" (close to what two kitchen pots banged together sound like.) What size hats you get?? where did you get them? Congrates dude! Those are good hats for the money. i need a ride cymbal to complete my basic setup.i think i need something heavy.i am using my 18" paiste thin crash as a ride but it crashes really easy.will a heavy ride stay more in place? You might want to move up to a larger and dedicated ride. You're using a crash as a ride; no wonder it crashes easily! Try out some dedicated rides in the Paiste line; you won't be dissapointed. Thinking back, my first real ride was a Paiste 2001 Heavy Ride. Man do I miss that ride.
Members Carminemw
I have a pair of those! Yep, they bite. Almost a bit too crispy. Yes but when you're an old fart like me and your high end is gone in one ear, they sound just about right!
