Most realistic sounding "rock and roll" drum machine?

I'm looking to do some recording and am looking for a great "rock and roll" drum machine.

Preferably hardware, because I like pressing buttons and turning knobs.

Any suggestions on what I should use to get convincing "living, breathing" acoustic drum sounds that sound natural and not synthetic?

Maybe something similiar to what ZZ Top used on "Sharp Dressed Man"?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Anything with the best "sampled" sounds. At this point in the game, I don't know if I'd go with a machine instead of software and a computer. Things are changing so fast in electronics, machines are being outdated almost as soon as they come out. Trust the names I think...Roland, Yamaha, maybe Alesis...

Reason 4.0 has the redrum drum module which is killer. In addition, you have tons of other instruments. Sure it's not touch and feel, but it IS powerful.

In Redrum, it comes with samples, and you can include your own. There are some decent rock kits on there. They sound real, and expansion packs (called "Refills") are available with all sorts of kits.

It's worth the money if you're interested in all that. Guitar Center also sells (I'm sure others do too) a "lite" version of Reason. Check into that, see if it has what the full version has. There are a number of places you can find Reason. If you wanna go the next step, get a cheap 25 key midi controller (USB...or if your computer has midi ports...that's a plus!).

Also, don't totally shun synth-drums. John Frusciante recorded "To Record Only Water for 10 Days" with one, and he got a nice dark-pop-rock sound. You could probably pick something up used for under $100.
