..I'm still in shock.

A while back my cousin became one of the secretaries at his office/studio/apartment (it's all together on his property). I was still at school at the time, so didn't think much of it. My dad then calls me up a few days later to tell me that a guy by the name of Larry Campbell moved into a house across the street from my parents. After looking him up... I was shocked. Guitarist for Dylan, Elvis Costello, etc. He also plays with Levon at Levon's Midnight Rambles. Anyway.. long story short, I met Larry and his wife -- who also plays. I jammed with him at his house and told him what I'm going to school for (electrical engineering) and what I have as far as my own recording gear, etc. He took me down to Levon's place along with my cousin to show me around Levon's studio and stuff. I met with the head engineer and talked with him for a while about a bunch of {censored}. He showed me everything they have as far as recording goes and how they just won a grammy for Levon's last album. I then got talking about how I'd love to do this and how I don't see myself doing anything else for a living except something with music... to which his response was "Well you can start here and apprentice with me." I almost {censored} my pants. I start tomorrow. :D :D

Keep those ears open! That is a shot at an experience very few get.... consider this as well, Levon Helm has been involved in recording music since the 60's; so there is going to be such a wealth of knowledge there that it isn't funny - so keep those ears open and congratulations!

Holy {censored}ing hell man.... I LOVE THIS JOB!!! I am basically the head engineers bitch, but let me tell you what.... I'm 100% okay with it. My duties today consisted of micing a drum kit (9 mics in all) for a band that's in the studio right now recording. I also got to watch the engineer at work on the computer EQ'ing {censored}, etc. Had to go on a coffee and donuts run (of course!) and some other random {censored}. I also got the job of re-wiring everything to make it look nicer. There's a lot of "spaghetti" all over the floor... if you know what I mean. :D In a couple of weeks I should be getting into some more in depth stuff. But damn, I love it!

How much do you have to pay them to let you hang around?

Seriously, that's very cool. Take full advantage and do whatever it takes to stick around and learn EVERYTHING you possibly can.

Drop everything in your life RIGHT NOW, and immerse yourself in this. Buy a digital recorder (mini) that has lots of internal memory and keep the thing on at all times. (down load it every night and keep a tidy library of what you learn.)

If you become anything less than a sponge during this apprenticeship, you are selling a once in a lifetime opportunity down the drain. Good luck, don't be late, be polite, professional, and eager. Enthusiasm often goes a long way to opening doors for people. And above all else, be honest in their company.

And remember to say thank you everytime you leave. Awesome job man!!!

Also you'll in all probability have no time or use for any of your gear- and thinking of the guys here now, you might consider contributing the bulk of it to the traveling box of drums. In deference to your selfless act and the personal expense involved, I will personally pick up the gear. At your convenience of course.

{censored}in' Wow!

Congratulations seems an insignificant word.

{censored}in' Wow!

I would also say that just wow is insignificant, {censored}in' Wow!!

Live it, learn it, be it!

"If you love what you do, you'll never work a day in your live" You get to make that a realilty! Good luck and {censored}in' Wow!

That's all well and good, but don't forget about the engineering degree you're working on. Sounds like you've found a good job that you're interested in, but don't lose focus on the long term career either.

In today's economy and competitive environment, you will be glad you got the degree.
