Ok, so as promised in my other thread, here are the pics of my new Tamas that I picked up off of Craigslist for 300. They're midnight blue and they sound great!

If anyone can give me info about this set based on the pics, please do (year, model, wood type, etc).

What do y'all think of my new setup?!

Nice kit for $300. The midnight blue is very similar to my Indigo Blue SCPs.

It is a little different. I own a set of first generation Rockstar DXs in midnight blue. The difference being that in certain types of light, the midnight blue looks black.

Here are some pics to show what I mean (these were already in the post pics of your kit thread). You can really see it in the bass drum, but sometimes they just look black, but most of the time they look dark blue.

Anyway, I bought mine in 92, and couldn't have been happier. I replaced the snare, but then again, what is a drummer without a few different flavors of snares.

Anyway, yours are likely basswood and luan, as they were made in taiwan. The made in japan rockstars have been all sorts of woods. Mine are MIJ basswood and mahogany (like the superstars of the time), but other MIJ rockstars have been maple or birch. I believe the current MIJ rockstars are birch, just like the current superstars.

Yours look like the fusion sizes, and you can tell if they were the rounded lug rockstars that came before the current superstars, or after by looking at the starcast mounts. If it says they are licensed from gauger percussion, then they are the older version, if it doesn't have that licensing information, then they are the newer rockstars.

In any case, enjoy them.

Nope I got the Iron Cobras separately. It was still a good deal for $125 for the Cobras. The Tama set did come with a set of Pulse double bass pedals which I'm looking to sell now too :-)

BTW the snare has a nice ring to it, but I'm curious about one thing. When I play it softly, you don't get any snare vibrations at all - it just gets the ringing tom sound. Once the snares do kick in, they are loud and crisp though. Is that normal?
