Members mikestix78
Hey guys, I figured this out while I was practicing today. Actually took quite a while mentally to get used to but anyway.. so you play the typical jazz pattern 'spang a lang' with the 2 and 4 on the hats. keep that going while making the 2 and 4 the new tempo... the new qtr note pulse. So everytime the hat plays is a quarter note, and i would base a new beat off of this new pulse. my right hand continues the same ride pattern nonstop. then I transition back into the jazz beat/pattern I was originally playing. Has anyone done anything like this before? Is this some kind of metric modulation? I don't really know if this has any value in a musical sense, but it sounds pretty cool to me haha. let me know if you guys try it out

Also extensions like that can easily get absorbed by the base feel so some clever contexting might be necessary. Now you're talkin' literary chops.
