Usually, I'm not very impressed by drumming "prodigies." I find them sloppy, or sterile, or whatever - they generally just get a "good for his age" from me. This vid, however, blew my {censored}ing mind.

Not the most technically amazing thing in the world, but the independence in the more samba-y sections is pretty insane for anyone, let alone a fourteen year-old.

I got about 40 seconds in before i had to stop.

Me too...sorry...he's got great independence...very nice, But not really blown away by that. I have seen new amazing drummers and although I agree he's gonna be in the realm of the greats, his stuff sounded very ordinary to me in a lot of ways. I wish I could do the indepedence and odd meter things he's doing, but I looked, I saw, I left. Thanks for the post....

Here's one I found quite by accident. I turned Beaker and Micky onto this guy one night. Chops is one thing, but look at this guys dexterity....especially at :18-24, 3:30, 3:45...oh the hell with it...AL OF IT...and Stark...check out the rudiments all throughout...and he looks effortless...:thu:

I saw that live. It's from the "Modern Drummer Festival", which I used to attend every year. That's from a few years back, and yeah, that kid was pretty good.

Zach, you have the right attitude, draw inspiration from what you want to learn, and practice your ass off!!! Just listen to what Carm tells you, and you'll get there, sure enough!!!

Now, shouldn't you be practicing right now, instead of reading the forum? :poke:

While it's interesting and impressive to see all the drumming pyrotechnics coming from someone so young, what impressed me most was his independence. His ability to maintain the left foot clave while his hands and right foot played rhythms above it was very nice to hear. I hope to hear from him in the future with an increasingly matured style.

I don't like drum solo's that go BRRRRRRAAAAAAAAAPPPPAPAPAPAPAPAaaaaaaaaaaaattttcrashcrashcrashtattattattatattatatBRRRRRMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMPPPPPPPPPHHHHHHHHHHTTTTTTTTTTTTTHHHH. It's just one big noise. That's what this kid is doing. WWAAAAAPPPPWAPWAPWAPBRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR crash crash crash

But, I do believe this falls perfectly into the catagory "this kid is GOOD for his age". There is a ton of energy, and he has good hands and feet and great independence. But he is just blowing the load. That's what kids do, no surprise. He will mature hopefully.

Ya know...you all must think I'm losing it big time by now. I post a comment about another great find, AND I DON'T EVEN INCLUDE THE LINK!!!! I'm sitting there thinking, man RB doesnt' even deserve a comment? Then I look back at my post and the link isn't even there! UGGHHH:facepalm::facepalm: I'm so embarrased:

here's the link I meant to include in the original post, the one I turned beaker and Mick onto to. I found him by accident. This is RONALD BRUNER! Man is he smooth with his movements, especially with long distances in the reach!

I find it's fairly easy (if the kid is willing to put in the time) to teach chops to the younguns, but they tend to develop groove and a real sense of time a bit later. This kid has more than enough time to do so.
