Members SeVeReDmUd
I'm a bit curious myself, but I haven't heard of many...if any people on here who are interested in screaming besides myself, you and one other person. However, you might want to check out Melissa Cross "the Zen of Screaming" DVD. It shows some very helpful techniques. I'm still trying to get the screaming AND singing to sound right, myself. Fill us in if you learn anything new, and i'll do the same.

Members shredhead7
Most death metal screams, growls, cookie stuff is really low volume. It's closer to a whisper for a lot of it. The hardcore scene is actually screaming (ruining your vocal chords). Death metal not so much. Seriously, my speaking voice is much louder than my death metal voice. You have to have a hot mic and almost eat it, which will add more bass to your voice. As always, drink lots of waters.
Members Raskolnikovs axe
all the people i've seen in person who can do a really good, low death-metal voice do it at speaking volume or slightly louder - i've never seen any of this whispery stuff

Members shredhead7
all the people i've seen in person who can do a really good, low death-metal voice do it at speaking volume or slightly louder - i've never seen any of this whispery stuff First, there are two types, the low growl (Cannibal Corpse style) and the high type (melodic dm). Both of them are much quieter than you would think (to someone who is trying to learn how to do it). From that, start quiet, almost whisper level (especially on the higher pitched stuff). Once you realize that you can emulate the sound that you're hearing on CD; through practice, you can increase your volume without hurting your throat. Most of the guys that I've seen that were starting out, were trying the opposite. Literally screaming at full volume into the microphone, which is extremely bad for your chords. Members LordBTY
Melissa Cross Identifies 3 types of scream: 1. Vocal Fry The quiet scream produced by overtones from vocal fry. This is the safest method of screaming. 2. False Cord/Fold The cords/folds just above the 'true cords/folds' that produce a much louder sound than vocal fry. This is slightly more damaging. 3. Death Cord Louder than vocal fry, commonly known as 'cookie monster vocals'. The most damaging method.

Members SeVeReDmUd
I think I pretty much do the vocal fry method, and it's pretty quiet when it's not mic'd up. for the record
