Hey Guys,

Is this normal for a brand new cymbal?

I just got a deal and the 14" AAX-plosion cymbal came as a rebate. I am thinking about selling it...but it does not look new... :cop:

It plays fine though...

Here are the pics:

Raw = unlathed. That's what all cymbals look like as "blanks" before they are shaped into profile and lathed and finished. Leaving the bell unlathed does affect the sound, that's why they do it. It's not the look that matters, it's the way the sound waves travel across the rough surface. I dislike the brilliant finish over a raw surface because it's only brilliant in patches.

Thanks for the feedback. I am new to this deal. All my other cymbals are brilliant finishes, so this sort of looks out of place..lol.

It also seems a bit rusty. I guess tone matters more than looks. It sounds great but a bit high pitched..

Anyone use 14" cymbal? Silly question, but can this be used in place of a 12" Splash?

I use a 14" crash sometimes and love it. It's especially handy for softer gigs or smaller venues so it doesn't over power. It also works as great for acoustic shows.

It probably has too much bite and attack to be used as a splash but you could always try....
