What do you do if you're told by a friend who was told by a friend who's stoned brother said that he bought drugs from the guy who just joined your band as a bassist?? I would have never guessed this guy to be a drugy.... what do I do? I don't know for sure if it's true or not though...

Well, first off your fourth in line on the information highway. Remember that game we played in grade school where you start a secret and pass it on and by the time it reaches the end of the line, it's a completely different secret? You could be involved with this type of situation. On the other hand, if you and the band are anti drugs, you should confront him in a nice way. Don't be confrontational. If he say's that it's BS, then tell him right there that in no way will you guys tolerate that type of behavior. If he's telling you the truth, he'll hang. If he's not, there will be signs and eventually he'll quit or you'll fire him. Find out the facts as best you can first if it at all possible.

Do you guys police each other for all transgressions... cheating on taxes, DUI, speeding violations, littering, etc? Or is the drug thing a special case? Cause if it hasn't crossed into the an "issue" for the band, I don't see how it's any of the band's business what he does on his own time.

Drugs are a special case because there are multiple ways that other band-members can be implicated by the police who care about small quantities of pot.

In other news:

Do you really want someone stashing bricks of coke in your house, unbeknownst to you?

be upfront and ask him.........be a man!!!man. If he is dealing, get rid of him and stay far away. Police don,t care if your not using or dealing if your within 20 ft of someone that is. Guilty by location. You probably don,t need the headache.............

We don't police each other, I'm just thinking about it, hoping that it doesn't become a problem sometime in the future. I *heard* that he was dealing for income, I just don't want to get pulled into an investigation mainly...like if he's stashing pot under the pick guard of his bass or something lol

I'd say it's only a problem if it comes into the band situation. So far, doesn't sound like it has. Problem solved.

Let the guy do what he's gotta do to get by. Just make sure to let him know he can't bring his stash to rehearsals, gigs, etc... Other than that, I'd say let it go. No sense firing a good bass player just because he found an easy way to make money.

I look at it like a neighbor calling the parking police to give you a ticket for your car being three inches over on their driveway. You'd say "bull{censored}!," right? Why couldn't the neighbor just have knocked on your door to say "move your car?"

It's only as big a deal as you make it. Of course, if all you guys are uncomfortable around drugs, than that's a whole different issue. But hell, I'd tell him (jokingly) if he wanted to stay in the band, roll up a couple doobers!

If you go this route...your asking for trouble. ignoring the problem, could get you in trouble. even if you did ask him not to bring it around.......do you trust him with your livelyhood???? It differs from state to state, but here at home if they find anything on your premises.....house, car, boat, bicycle.....they have the right to confiscate it. Its gone...bye,bye....you will never see it again.............not sure I would take his word, and think everthing will be ok........when drugs are involved...prepare for the worst scenario
