Members knightvalin
Hey guys: Been away a while, I know, but life sometimes gets like that. ANYWAY - ...was in my favourite Pawnshop the other day, the guy who owns it knows me well and what I'm looking for in all things Drum....well, told me he had a couple of snares in , am I interested? I said sure, so I went into the basement, sure enough, theres a new Sonor Phil Rudd Signature Snare...and a near mint Rogers Dynasonic, all parts intact. Told me he'd sell me either one for 200.00 when they come up for sale next week. Now I know this is probably a dumb question, but did I overpay for the Dynasonic and should have taken the Sonor instead? I await your responses, not with baited breath. :thu:PEACE:thu:
Members Carminemw
Plough is the man to ask, but that sounds high to me for the Dynasonic, but if it's MINT, looks like it's a good deal according to anything I see on CL. Gotta know the year though...the older the better.... Did you buy it or ARE you buying it?
Members lossforgain
Carm, sorry man but that's not right. If it's a Dynasonic with all the parts including the correct strainer and bottom rail, it's worth around $250-300. $200 is a great deal. The Rudd drum is a boat anchor. If it happens to be an early 7-line shell it's worth even more. $350-450. Count the shell lines, see if there's a tag inside with the place it was made -- Cleveland is the best, then Dayton, then Fullerton. If it's Cleveland you want to know if it's Bread and Butter lugs or Beavertails. B and B lugs will crack and break, Beavertails are where it's at. It's an average deal...it's a pawn shop remember. He probably gave the guy 50.00-75.00 for it in the first place. If it's a 300.00 drum, it IS! Members fusionfunk
The Rudd drum is a boat anchor. I love old Rogers just as much as the next guy, but I'd take a high end Sonor over ANYTHING Rogers EVER made, PERIOD! Hardly a boat anchor! Members kmart
I love old Rogers just as much as the next guy, but I'd take a high end Sonor over ANYTHING Rogers EVER made, PERIOD! Hardly a boat anchor! Let's do a little experiment: I will buy a medium-to-fair condition Rogers snare from the era they are talking for $200. You buy the Sonor Rudd drum in mint condition for the same. We will put them both into hermetically sealed chambers and ensure they remain completely as they now are for 5-10 years and then see what we can get for them. I will get far more than $200 for the Rogers. You will get far less than $200 for the Sonor. That's the point being made.
Members drumz4hire
If he's your buddy he'll probably cut you a deal on both... Then CL or ebay the PR..they're going for $400 on ebay new Then keep the Rogers Solved
Members knightvalin
Guys, thanks for the heads up on the snare. Admittedly, I was looking at it in a basement under florescent lighting, but as far as I could see: Original strainer, circular, with ' DYNASONIC' engraved on it. Rogers badge on left side ( I believe) closest to the throw off Can't be sure about the amount lines etched in the middle the lugs where square in shape. Depth I don't think is 6.5 couldn't see inside the drum, but it does have the top head mute with the largish adjustment knob and I believe the wingnut fast adjust . It also has in place the snare wire rails, and the snares do look somewhat original. If I need to replace them, should I spend the bucks and get some Puresound wires? Carm, I haven't bought it yet, but I do have a handshake agreement to pick it up this weekend after he releases it for sale. This guy has never screwed me on gear, and asks for my input on drum stuff he gets in, so I trust him as much as I trust anybody:facepalm:..... I was told by someone on the weekend that one of the drawbacks of the Rogers Snare was that there were so many screws and ' fiddley bits' on it that it would be a good idea to use some kind of light duty thread locker to keep from losing the parts, as we all know these things are getting rarer and you almost have to have one snare to play with, and 2 or 3 to cannibalize. Anyway, I'll know for sure on Saturday, and if I can figure it out, I'll post pics of the new purchase....... :thu:PEACE:thu:
Members knightvalin
Hey guys, .... Geez I hope I can figure out a way to attach these pics...but, yep, I picked up the Rogers Snare from the pawnshop today....Looking at it close up, its in even better shape than I thought. I am going to be taking it apart and cleaning it , but I figured I'd give you a couple pics ....No label on the inside of the drum, but the serial # on the badge is # 15297..... Hope I get these attached properly:poke: :thu:PEACE:thu: p.s....Hmmmmm, not happening yet....any ideas on how to load these pics I took?
