Bass & High Hat question (methods).....

In general :

When keeping a steady beat (nothing wild...lol) 120 bpm 1/8 note on the bass

and a little hi hat on 1 and 3 or 2 and 4...

Do you keep your heel on the ground and allow your foot to rest on the pedal/floor, or do you always keep your heel off the ground and pound the crap out of the pedals with the balls of your feet ?

I'm guessing when you're really gettin' after it (tearin' it up) with double bass it's much different.

My kit should be arriving tomorrow, so I need to know.....

i rely heavily on my left foot for keeping time.

for closed hat work, i have my heel up and tap along (usually quarters) with the rest of my left leg. kinda bouncing on my toes, i guess.

wide open hats, i usually put my foot on the floor and do the same thing.

mid-open hats, i have my heel down and rock my leg to the left and right.

I use both. Down for a light touch, or slow groove. With a hard/fast shuffle or latin ostinato it's easier when the heel's up and the leg's workin' it.

I'm kinda the same and I agree is no one true correct method. But even with heels up, I'm still not pounding the crap out of the pedals, bass or High hat. It helps to keep the bass and hi hat pedal pressure the same as the hands. Pounding the bass while playing the snare lightly sounds off base. this is where practice and timing come into play. Many songs call for the bass drum to fade in and fade out and not always full on like on "We will rock you". Hope this helps.

Cool methods so far.....

I seem to want to fall off my stool when I have both feet off the ground together...lol

Double bass not so much of course cause it's alternating, but like keeping a steady bass , then

pulling the hi hat foot off the ground whild bass foot is also coming up grrr, I have to lean back and don't like doing that , feels

unrelaxed.

I'll practice.

haha. Keep your back straight and try to be relaxed as much as possible. Practice painfully slow for extended lengths, make sure every motion is fluid without muscle tension. For posture, it helps to have a throne with backrest though not necessary with good discipline.

COOL TIPS .......:thu:

I got the second pkg yesterday and put it together today..

In a word EXTREMELY IMPRESSED (ok it's too good for just one wd)

The hdwe alone seems almost worth the price.

The rubber pads and cymbols might be where I could spend another $1000 or so to upgrade, but they are not irritating or anything like that. They have zones and are responsive to attack.

The snare is killer.

The snare controller (pedal) is way cool.

The kit presets are excellent for my use.

Sadly there is no kick pedal.......

Can you guys recommend me a double as well as a single kick pedal that would be compatible with this kit.

Remember this is my first kit, I don't need Buddy Rich quality, + my budget is about gone , the drum kit was a very small part of the overall equipment upgrade....

Their universal for the most part, unless you went with a longboard. I agree cearlywine. Go used on CL or Ebay. What kit did you get? Oh, one minor thing, cymbal is spelled like that not cymbol. I know it seems anal, but I'm trying to lend you some credibility.

I've used, DW, Axis, IC's and Eliminators. I like the eliminators best. JMO though.

Cool , thanks marko,

I got the Roland TD4SV, such a cool piece of gear for too much fun.

'Copy' on the cymbal..., I could tell you how to spell just about anything ,

but my finners can't....

I going to have to buy a cheapy for the holidays, then get an eliminator

or ... after the first or so.
