Members rayboomboom
Viedis Firdjian Zildjian and Vic Firth merge! December 20, 2010It is my pleasure to announce that as of today, the world's leading cymbal manufacturer, the Avedis Zildjian Company, will merge with Vic Firth, the global market leader in drumsticks, effective immediately. Both of our New England-based, family-owned companies are well respected legacy brands in the music industry with a long tradition of product quality and innovation. Zildjian is honored to join forces with the Vic Firth Company which has set the standard for drumsticks in the music industry. Similarities in our cultures and business philosophies, coupled with a shared dedication to product and service excellence, provide a strong foundation for the union of our two companies. Both companies will continue to run autonomously. In fact, our customers should notice no difference in the way business is conducted moving forward. "I have the greatest respect for Zildjian," said Vic Firth, President, Vic Firth Company. "Our businesses share common values, a passion for manufacturing, and a similar approach to how we do business. This union represents a unique opportunity to leverage our respective leadership positions in the drumstick and cymbal categories. I look forward to years of growth and newfound success." All of us at Zildjian and Vic Firth thank you for your continued support and wish you and your families a very happy holiday. More information on this exciting merger is available at Zildjian.com. Members Carminemw
Any one else think that this is kind of a weird and pointless merge? we really don't know enough about it behind the scenes...I imagine it's a cross between keeping up with the jonses and the "what can I get for the right price" mentality... Members SYMBOLIC
I wonder who bought who? I would think that Zildjian bought Firth, but it could be the other way around. Or is there a larger parent company that owned one and bought the other?

Members EvansSpecialist
Don't they also own Puresound? This is correct. As far as the Zildjian/VF news, to the best of my knowledge, Zildjian bought Firth. Strange that they're calling it a merger.

Strange that they're calling it a merger. Ehhh, when both companies have decent reputations and quality it's a 'merger', if one company has a brand but has had recent struggles with quality it's a 'buy out'. Members Old Steve
I doubt they'll thrash the Vic Firth brand. It's way to valuable of a brand in the market. Also, both are family run businesses in Massachusetts that have always been close. My guess is that Mr. Firth is just getting on in years, doesn't want to continue running a business and is entrusting his legacy to a family that's been in the cymbal business for a few centuries. I don't anticipate any problems.
