Members Carminemw
Well how stupid am I (don't answer that) I take a look at my kit...still love it but find I am not getting the use out of my second snare and second floor tom. I am also feeling that I would really like an upper tom to my left because some of the patterns I used to play and like, are no longer as fluid because now just a ride cymbal sits there. No biggy...I'll just move this down there and...no wait...if I move that there then this bracket won't fit the way it should. Oh wait, I have a multi clamp,,,I can do...oh hey...now this works but I gotta change out a tom holder and...argh...that's too far away...another multiclamp...OK That's right...wait...that doesn't fit... an on it goes...1 hour...2 hours I get done and now my kit looks like...like when Curly of the 3 Stooges was trying to fix the leaking pipe in the bathroom and ended up with a tower of pipes that he couldn't even get out of. MY KINGDOM FOR A LIVE VERSION OF AN "UNDO BUTTON"...or at least a dialog box that says "would you like to save these changes" so I can push NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
Members 1001gear
Side snare, woopee wizbang zippitty doo dah. No side snare, Hang on Sloopy if you got any ability. Instant chops is no substitute for real chops. Break away from proximity dependence. Learn to get around -- and this IMO IS the craft: get around _THE MUSIC_ . Members FitchFY
Heh heh - Carm, at least you didn't buy stuff. I get on these kicks where I want to try something new and drop $100 on random gear. - I've set up a tom to my left only to realize I rarely play a stage large enough to get away with it. PURCHASED: Yamaha tom stand- I mounted a china cymbal above dual rack toms a la Ray Luzier. My band mates hated it, though I (and the crowds) loved it. PURCHASED: Yamaha boom arm, 16" Wuhan china- I set up a pair of 14" Zildjian rock hats to the right of my rack tom as X-hats to again realize it wasn't worth the PITA of another stand... and I don't play much double bass. PURCHASED: used hi-hat stand with broken pedal And let's not talk about rods, brushes, and muffling options...
Members the DW
Heh heh - Carm, at least you didn't buy stuff... This is true! I have stuff that I had bought for this purpose. They are sitting in a pile, unused. You got off easy, Carm!!
Members bodinski
Oh man, Carmine. I do that crap ALL THE TIME. And then I have to undo it all. As a bonus, it drives the Mes. crazy - the constant tinkering & rearranging. Come to think of it, it's about time to ditch the 3rd rack tom & move the ride over the right bass. AGAIN. This will throw off the placement of the china as well as my 15" crash, which'll need to come off the boom flown from the 3rd rack's tom arm & move to it's own stand. But then I can clamp the dislocated tom arm to the aforementioned added stand & hang my cowbell on it! Oh, and then I'll need to retune at least one tom (who am I kidding, EVERYTHING) as the interval between the racks will be off. Then somebody'll call for a band practice & I'll have to tear down at least half this stuff & schlep it across town. On second thought, maybe I'll just have another beer..
