Members skinthrasher
Don't really know what is the worst, but I got one a couple of months back while I was rushing downtown to see John Mellencamp. That kinda put a damper on the festivities. Members kmart
Somewhere around 85 in a 55...but if he'd been about 1 mile ahead of where he was, it would have been about 112.
Members fusionfunk
35 in a 25. Back country road, where the speed limit suddenly changes from 40 to 25, around a bend, with no warning sign to tell of the upcoming change. I took pictures and video of the area, showing the lack of a warning sign, as required by law, and went to court. Judge agreed with me. Result? One pissed off cop. Members cearleywine
Happy to say I've never had one. The only ticket I've had was when I was 14 and got pulled over for no headlights, the ticket was a warning but I was charged $90 for no driver's license. Members El Glom-o
66 in a 35 zone @ 3:00AM on my way home from a friend's Xmas party. I didn't have my wallet with me since I had dropped it in a grocery store which was my last stop before going home on Xmas Eve. Fortunately, I also didn't have a drop of alcohol in me, either. The cop was very cool about it. He said he wouldn't ticket me for having no license or registration, but he had to give me one for the speeding. When I asked my lawyer what to do in court, he said, "Tell the truth and act penitent.", which is what I did. Got 4 points and $250 fine reduced to 1 point and $40. You get nailed at 50 over in PA or VA (where I lived for a long time) you better be prepared to take the bus for about a year.

Members TheIncident
80 in a 55, would have been painful, but showing up to court with a friendly attitude and telling the truth got it reduced to 60 in a 55.
Members irnbru83
Never had a speeding ticket. Got a ticket two years ago for turning left from a non-left turn lane at a stop sign (over $200, I think). I didn't realize there was a left turn lane due to the faded paint. Also, the guy in front of me did it, so I just followed like a dumbass sheep. Cop tagged me and let other guy go. Didn't bother arguing it because I live in Texas. Just did defensive driving online and was done with it. Saved money on my car insurance haha

But they have to catch you doing it first...I've driven Chicago to NY...at least 3 times, and damned if I'm going to keep near the speed limit across that ridiculously long and boring drive across PA! Members FitchFY
Worst and only speeding ticket - 40 in a 40 for $175 about eleven years ago. Seriously. I was 19 and scared sh*tless that I was bagged. No idea I was speeding - the ticket said 40mph in a 25mph. I was too inexperienced to fight it - I was too busy trying to hide it from my parents! I went back two weeks after I paid it because I swore it wasn't a 25mph zone, and it wasn't. $175 because I was driving safely. I actually love and respect dang near every cop in the USA, but THAT ONE was clearly an a-hole who was screwing with some kids.

I was on my way to rehearsal, and cop tickets me for doing 50 in a 35. Thing is, the location listed on the ticket was a 45 mph zone, so I took pictures of the signs leading up to the stated location, showing all the signs that said 45. The cop just plain lied about stuff on the stand (like saying he was following me all the way, when he actually came out of a side street and was about a quarter mile away). When he was done, he left the courtroom. Then I got on the stand and showed the judge the photos. He dismissed the case immediately. While leaving, I walked past the cop, and he asked what happened. I told him the judge dismissed the case. The cop asked, "was it because my speedometer calibration expired? (what he told the judge)". I just said, "Yeah, that was it." Most cops are fine individuals, but some (like this one) are just sacks of {censored}.

Members kmart
Most police departments, to one degree or another, thrive on the revenue generated by tickets (moving violations AND parking, etc.).I would say most police, again to one degree or another, are on the hook to write a number of tickets/generate a certain amount of revenue. When you factor in the number of legit tickets that will somehow be overturned or dismissed, I'd say it's a safe bet that many officers go out of their way to not see them overturned. I know when I was a kid and drove stupidly fast all the time, I had my share of experiences with how willing police & the courts are to change the 'facts' in order to bring in revenue: got my first speeding ticket less than a month after getting my license. Got another not too long after that. From the age of ~17-21 or so, I was always one moving violation away from losing my license. Through some crafty negotiation, I would get a speeding ticket changed to an improper registration or broken taillight ticket, plead guilty, pay the fine and be on my way with no impact to my license/insurance (Because I was pleading guilty to non-moving violations). The police and courts didn't care AT ALL about what actually happened; they were concerned with getting $ fast and moving on as quickly as possible. As an adult, I had another series of run-ins with Chicago police writing bunk parking tickets on the block I lived on. MULTIPLE (8-10) tickets in a 5-6 month period. They were all invalid, and I had about a 66% record of getting them overturned (depending on how much time & energy I wanted to spend on them; I couldn't always take a half-day off work and go to appear and fight them)...but NO cop wants all the tickets they wrote overturned, as it reflects directly back on them. So then I started getting MORE bunk tickets for other violations that weren't factual; the police in my neighborhood were targeting my car just to {censored} with me. This happened to a few neighbors as well. Eventually, we all went to our Alderman with complaints; the stories were all too similar to be made-up, etc., so he got us all in front of the head of the department of revenue (Once a ticket is written, the police no longer 'own' it (nice loophole)), and basically argued my case for me because he was so pissed about the abuse going on. End result?NOTHING; I ended up with a Denver boot on my car for unpaid tickets.I paid them (~$600), and moved to another area. Yep; SOME (not all, but certainly more than a couple) cops suck balls, and the system is beyond crooked/flawed.You can fight city hall, sure, but in my experience, you likely won't win, and even if you do, it's not worth the cost.
