1) Luzier is exceptionally talented, period.

2) Criss is also being inducted into some sort of associated hall of fame that night, which I would guess is the only reason he's a judge as well. As for him being inducted in the first place...yes, his drumming is no big deal, and yes, Kiss is overrated, and MOSTLY (not entirely) a known entity due to gimmicks, but you can't argue with the sheer volume of records sold. That's why Criss is in any way relevant today, and not the answer to a one-hit wonder question.

Is Ray Luzier actually a talented drummer or is he getting attention because he plays in a band that makes a decent chunk of change, and thus helps out his endorsers with free marketing?

I saw Ray with playing with Army of Anyone - long before he joined Korn. The guy is MONSTER player. I hate Korn, but almost went to a show recently just to see him play again. I think he used to have a specific Forum here on HC at one time.

If you haven't heard it... the Army of Anyone album is great. His playing...along with the DeLeo brothers and Richard Patrick (of filter) is worth the price of admission... which is cheap as you can find the CD for around $10 max.

I recall the guy never showed? No explanation was offered either.
:idk:

Ray was told it was an online chat, not a "here, have a web forum" thing. He answered some questions and posts, but it only lasted a day, if I recall correctly. I was bummed - he's SO DAMNED GOOD!

And it seems that he's a really nice cat, too!

Yeah you're correct.

It's funny you say that. I've had 2 different friends of my tell me he's a huge prick. One met him at a dDrum party and one met him backstage after a gig. (It turns out, the same Army of Anyone show I saw). I always thought that was a shame cause I am such a fan of his playing.

Admittedly, this is all 3rd party hearsay and I have never personally met the guy.

Stephen Jenkins on the other hand can lick my sack...

(Sorry, vent that must occur whenever discussing musicians and their coolness vs. attitude).

Hahaha - I met him once, too, in passing, and yup, HUGE tool bag.

Perhaps, but if not for him, the self-titled live album on XXX and Nothing's Shocking would not be what they are, and for those alone, he gets a lifetime pass, Infectious Grooves (and appearance in Encino Man), Porno for Pyros, and all the 'post Ritual' Jane's breakup/reformation output notwithstanding.

you're thinking of Perkins. Jenkins is the lead singer of Third Eye Blind.

You're right.

What the hell is anybody in a drum forum doing talking about the guy from Third Eye Blind for?

For that matter, what is anybody anywhere doing talking about ANYTHING related to Third Eye Blind for in the first place?

I would think any respectable drummer would want nothing to do with the joke that is Korn. I'm surprised they are still around after all this time. Must like the paycheck.

Re: Above - yeah, I was disappointed when he joined Korn. I was hoping it was just a quick touring thing to make some cash and then on to some other non {censored}ty band. Alas, it was not so.

And kmart - I brought up Stephen Jenkin's simply because the topic of musicians and their attidudes was broached (even if so by me) and I have made it my mission in life to disrespect that tone deaf asshole whenever that topic comes up. For the record (and to get us back on topic), the drummer of Third Eye Blind, Brad Hargrove, was really cool and is an excellent and under rated drummer.

I'm really glad you said that, DB. At the time, I was a big fan of 3EB (really more because of a girl I was dating), but Brad Hargrove WAS a great drummer, especially on the Blue album. Which, all things considered, is still a pretty cool album.

Ray Luzier is vastly under utilized in Korn - I think we can all agree on that. I'm kind of bummed he wasn't one of the guys who auditioned for Dream Theater!

3eb - I find it very hard to be a fan when you realize how much Stephen Jenkins can't sing. He can write a catchy tune...but not sing at all. It's horrible. (But I understand your position, a girl is about the only reason I ever listened to them also).

DT - I never really thought of that. It would have been really cool to see. Even though I haven't bought the new DT album, I do think that Mangini was the right guy all along. I think the DT guys knew it also but the audition process helped them prove it to everyone else.

That being said, I'm still waiting for MP to rejoin... or get back with A7X... he took what I thought to be an OK band and helped them make a phenominal album.
