Never seems to stop does it. I'm toying with the idea of having the Sabian custom shop make me a pair of hats.

Oooh! Tell us what you're thinking of getting! I had a custom pair of hats made by one of their cymbalsmiths at a Sabian Vault Tour stop a while back. It was really cool, I just wish I'd had him lathe them a little thinner. They were HH versions of the Memphis ride, but in hats, if that makes sense.

I've always loved Tony Williams hi hat sound, so I thought it would be cool if I could get near the type of sound. Tony played 2 15" K bottom cymbals but all Zildjian makes these days is 15" K light hats. The guy at Zildjian said that he put 2 15" K light bottoms together and said they sounded pretty good, but thats not enough to go on and it's not like I can go into a store and have a lot of selection in K light bottom cymbals to pair up and that most likely they would be to thin for the sound I want. Then I heard about the Sabian custom shop and I'm really on the fence about pulling the trigger.

Would you say that you are happy with the hats they did for you? Your feed back may help me make a decision. Please do tell about the titanium snare you are getting. I'm not aware of titanium snares except from "what's his name" I've kind of been wanting one. Oh crap here we go again.

Exactly! :)

I'm very happy with the custom hats I got from Sabian - although if I had to do it again like I said I would have had him go a little lighter on them. And maybe hammer some more. Whenever they make another Vault Tour stop locally I'll be there. I thought about ordering some crashes to match, from the factory, but it was a better deal on the VT stop, and I got to watch it happen.

For titanium - check out Dynamicx Drums. They are made by the same people who do Drum Foundry and Black Swamp concert percussion. By all accounts, it would seem that these drums are even better made than the maker-who-shall-not-be-named's drums. Eric (owner of Black Swamp/DF/Dynamicx) actually has a much better understanding of the science of working with the metal - for example, he has been able to electroplate the titanium shells with other metals to do plated finishes, which no one else is offering on titanium. I'm not going to get one of those because the plating adds a chunk of cost to the drum. I am considering an etched shell though, if I can come up with a design I like. :) Stay tuned...

BTW - MUCH less expensive than the other guy.

Hey, thanks for the feedback and the info on the snare. I do appreciate it.
