Members schecterc1lh Posted March 2, 2012 Members Share Posted March 2, 2012 Okay, so i have around $150 and here are the mics i have already: 2x SM571x E6092x SM581x AT3035 I am looking to start recording my kit, which is a kick, snare, high tom, low tom, and cymbals. Obviously i dont have a ton of money to get the extra mics to record, so what is the best option for me? 1) spend all of the money on a D6 (or similar) kick mic, only have 1 OH (3035) and use the rest on my toms and snare. Also, some cymbals would come through the tom mics, so i would have a little stereo field, but not much. 2) get a cheaper kick mic (like a audix fusion line or similar) and a cheap pair of OH's. I would say save your money for a GOOD kick mic rather than buying a cheap one. If you're going to go with a cheap kick mic (sub $150, say), just use one of your 58s. Hey... what if he used his AT3035 (with high pass filter OFF) for the kick, then get a pair of pencil condenser mics for OH? I have a pair I use for live sound OH (Behringer, I think) and while they aren't perfect, they do a pretty good job. I used them once when we did a "Wayne's World" kind of thing for our local community cable channel. Sounded pretty good considering it got all compressed for broadcast. more input. Well, you already have a nice condenser for OH (3035), great snare and tom mics (the rest), so all you need is a decent kick mic, and you're good to go! Yeah, so your cymbals won't be in stereo.
