Members rdrummer322
Just put in a new furnace and air conditioner yesterday. Daughter in college, son has decided to go back to college. No spare money. I play left footed right handed because when I was a young teenager my best friend John had a new drum set and I didn't. He played left-handed. When we would take turns jamming along to 45s it was just easier for me to move the floor tom over than switch everything, so when I did start getting my set the next year, that is how I started setting up. John played out in a teenage band once. I borrowed his set to play out twice. He stopped playing in the early 70s and packed it away in his parent's attic. We are talking about a 1966 blue sparkle Rogers 4 piece with a powertone snare, 20 inch bass, 8x12,16x16, all original heads and hardware, top of the line Zildgian cymbals, packed away for over 40 years in pristine condition, probably in the original boxes. This is the set I learned how to play on basically. He emailed me yesterday, asking what I think would be a fair price and if I would want it. Ploughman are you listening? What would be a fair price? Damn! By the way, the cymbals would be 13inch hihats, 16 and 18 crashes, 20 inch ride, all Zildjians (not old Ks I don't think).
Members gonzobassman
I would say about $250 in 1966 money!!! Lol don't really know what a good asking price would be,but I got the opportunity to gig with a dude that used an old Rogers set and the sizes sound the same.It was his first kit(from about the same time period),and they really sounded good.We miced the kick, and used one overhead, and got a great FOH sound. Members gonzobassman
If he still considers you a friend its quite possible that he wants you to have it.So fair market value vs. what you could get it for are probably two complete different numbers.Just a hunch. Members ThePloughman
Attic set. Condition issues are a possibility, and again, they could be pristine. All original parts, everything in excellent condition. Drums would be unmarked, clean shiney unpitted chrome , original heads, original hardware, including stands, tilters, etc. Wood Powertone or Tower snare drum, with Zildjians..... Bottom bargain basement price would be 1600. Top Collector grade everything, 2500. Cymbals could make that jump. Extras could make it jump again. And original boxes? well now.... Members rdrummer322
Talked to John, he sent some pics.. Not as pristine as I'd hoped. He said he played them a lot(never oin a band though) changed all heads, cheaper cymbals. Also the set is 1964, not 66. Ploughman, what is that snare? Looks like a 14inch floor. Members ThePloughman
1964? Serials should be in the 40,000 range on Holiday tags, Cleveland Ohio. Solid gray interior. Possibly three ply shells. Heavy beavertail lugs. Snare................... Holy Grail. 14-16 floor tom. RARE piece. Yes, 14 head, 16 depth. Unless I just cant see. 6.5 Powertone. beyond rare. Lovely. Members rdrummer322
He wants to sell it, has no clue of value. (Really he wants me to buy it but I can't right now). How much should he ask for this set up? I saw that 14 inch floor, drooled a little myself. That snare has got to sound amazing..
Members ThePloughman
I think a reasonable amount would be in the 1500 -2000 range. Given that the drums are in excellent condition with no replacements/extra holes, mods. Condition of the drums must be above average to excellent. The snare drum and 1416 are what define this kit. If this were a 4 piece, I would value it higher. It is also impossible to assess condition based on the pic. Each drum would need an individual assessment to pay in the high dollar ranges. One would need to know everything. But, I can see that selling for that much.

Members rdrummer322
Sent him your quote.. Told him his best bet would be to ebay it, not taking less than 1400 for everything. By the way, I'm offering him 500..no hassle, out of the house..
