Members Big Daddy
how people on CL come up with the asking price of a used kit. Just looked at an ad for a 3 year old Pearl Vision kit that's advertised for $1800 (does have decent cymbals). I saw a Sound Percussion kit last week for $1100 (pro-level ZBT cymbals if I remember correctly ). Sometimes I just want to send them an email and ask them WTF they think they have. Members race81
same over this way.......no deals to be had, everyone thinks what they got is gold....or, if I do find something I would be interested in for a decent price its halfway across the U.S! Members cdawg
who knows, man. those kits prolly never sell at those prices anyhoo. i put a decent kit on there, less than half retail, and it never sold. (??)
Members Big Daddy
It's kinda like a form of entertainment for me. Browse through drums for sale, pick the highest prices, view the ad then laugh.

Members 1001gear
If you loball enough of these guys you'll start seeing FIRM after the $1500 and a good breakdown of the value too.
Members melvinspeed
The local CL is much the same. Lots and lots of crap. A lot of it overpriced. Anything decent is DEFINITELY overpriced. Enjoy these: $1400 for Ludwig Rocker II's + wuhan cymbals $700 for a 3 piece Mapex Pro M; no hardware, cymbals or snare. $1200 for a used Mapex Saturn shell pack; or buy it new for $1600

Depending on the cymbals, once you figure in prices for everything (cymbal bag, plus the dozen pair (or brick) of sticks they likely bought as well)...And then consider the stupidity factor increase, plus tax... Maybe. I've seen dumber-er stuff.

Members twosticks
I've always wondered that too. My guess is either it's someone younger or naive and guesses that drums are worth what people have spent on them and that musical instruments appreciate in value OR that their set is the collectors item?? Or watch too much pawn stars or other shows like it where people pay stupid prices for dumb {censored}?? But I bet is mostly that they're wanting to get something else (different drum set, car or whatever and have NO money saved up. I guess they think that they can get top dollar selling to some smuck that doesn't know about drums?? and then they won't have to save up money or work for the other thing they want??? Plus there are dip{censored}s out there too, people that think that Speedkings are the only pedal to have (no knock against them, just some believe that way) or that they don't make them anymore. Or like the "pro ZBT's", Some one probably saw or read that pros do use Zildjians and think that any kind of Zildjian is a pro cymbal?? Or maybe they see an old rusty and dusty vintage Rodger's, Ludwig, or Slingerland kit go for big bucks and think that any older set fetches more money?? I don't really know either??? Members drumsdb
Hi, My name is Danny and I'm a habitual Craiglister... It started a long time ago as just a fun way for me to pass the time at work. It started innocent enough. Looking for a good deal on a snare or cymbal. Maybe just make a little cash from gear I'm not using anymore. Maybe trade one drug...err drum... for another. Now, it's full blown compulsion and I check CL 3-4 times a day. Maybe it's the endorphins I get from laughter, when seeing a $1500 listing for 10 Piece Sound Percussion PROFESSIONAL set that's actually a $200 5-Piece Sound Percussion set with 3 ZBT/B8 symbols (HH and Crash/ride) and 3 stands. Who doesn't laugh at that. It's freakin' funny... the math doesn't even add up. (5 drums + 3 stands + 3 cymbals = 11). Maybe it's the guy listing a 1980's Ludwig Acrolite for $350? Laughter is good for you, so I keep doing. But that's not it alone. I could also be trading my "old" 18" A custom crash I didn't want for a 19" HHX crash in almost brand new shape. Or maybe it was selling $1500 worth of cymbals I bought from an old endorser for about $400, after using them for 2 years. But then again, I used money from that for more Craigslisting, so maybe it just perpetuated the cycle. Or MAYBE, just MAYBE... it was buying a 6 piece (Snare exclude) Tama Starclassic Bubinga in pristine condition for $1200 COMPLETE with DW Hardware and an Iron cobra pedal. Yeah... That was it. I'm sure of it. What's the moral of my story, you ask? CL ain't all bad. I've had a lot of luck buying, selling, and trading...but it takes a LOT of patience. Sometimes, you do get people who just need money due to moving/marriage/divorce/baby's due, and they are just drummers that don't otherwise have a way to make money. It's pretty easy to spot the good deals or at least what's worth looking at seriously. In short, the people who know what they are taking about (and/or looking for), always put brand name or series in the posting and the $$ listed can be justified as in the ballpark. examples to check: DW Collectors Kit -> $2500 ** possible deal, depending on # of pieces. Most likely seller trying to break even, no deal Shine/Spaun/C&C Custom Drums -> $1500 ** possible deal, depending on # of pieces and condition Starclassic Snare drum -> $200 ** probable dealOcheltree Heavy Metal Snare - $250 ** DEAL (and purchased for $200 cash). examples to avoid, unless looking for the laughter induced endorphin rush:Pro Droomset with symbols - $150010 Piece Drumset - $250slightly used symbols - $2500Vintage Percussion Plus drum kit -> $800 I hope my story of heatbreak and triumph will help other people suffering from Craigslist addiction. The guy I got the pdp kit from had one too and wouldn't part with it. Loved that kit as much as his new Renown 57's! It was the catalina with little 18 in. bass drum and white pearl covering. I've heard nice things about those kits from everybody who owned one.
