Try ebay for a wuhan. Look for Vintage Logos store. You can call the guy, I've talked to him once, seemed nice enough. Maybe you could get him to try a few and pick one out for you. The other option is to order a few, as many as you could afford to put on your credit card, and send back what you don't like. They're cheap enough.

I have an 18" I got from MF. Sounded okay, but not totally happy with it. So got a circular drill bit, about 2", and cut 6 holes in it. It sounds better, still not perfect, but it works.

For short, cutting, accents, I say you cant beat the ZBT 18". Its really amazing for short, trashy, white noise effects, and can be ridden on without much overtone. Cheap as hell too.

I also second the Wuhan opinions.

I find that the nicer, higher end chinas all seem to have much longer decay and dont seem to ride as well. But that is fairly limited experience between only a few Z and Sab models.

It's funny you say that - I was thinking the same thing. Chinas to me should have that "trashy" sound, and the higher end models all seem to try to integrate high-end cymbal making into the process, resulting in more tone, sustain, etc.

While I applaud the process, this results in something less like a true China sound to me and something more like a hybrid China/ crash. I think the Zildjian Oriental may be one of the only higher end Chinas I've personally heard I truly liked in person outside of some of the cheaper stuff.

One of my favorites? Sabian B8 Pro 18" China.

Dendy,

That's the CHAOS China!! And it's gotten my vote almost every day. (Though I'm a HUGE fan of the Holy China in general). There is something about the china with rivets that I really dig.

I'm not (however) sure about it in general, as Sabian states that this one is meant to be played "inverted" meaning "not inverted" meaning edge side up. I've never really played a China that way as I fear it will kill my sticks.

That aside, I really like that one too!!

I own a 12" Wuhan China that is a KILLER little punch/effect cymbal. I don't use it too often, but when I do it is the perfect combination of trash and punch.

That being said, whenever I use it I am also concerned that more than 1 or 2 solid hits and the thing will fall apart.
