Members witesol
Experienced studio engineer, outfitting a house studio set. Drum heads I'm fairly keen on. Cymbals I am not. I'd prefer dry, quiet, darker cymbals and hi hats in particular for recording purposes.

Members FitchFY
You'll find plenty of good options in most of the brands. The Turkish design concept is where you'll get a lot of your "dry" from. "Quiet" is kind of relative, but thinner cymbals will help... pitch-wise, I'd stick to 14" cymbals as 13" or smaller tend to be higher in pitch, which is naturally more cutting. Zildjian Ks and Sabian HH or HHX both immediately come to mind, and they all sound excellent.

Members twosticks
I agree with Fitch about 14", just a small snares have to much "pop" sound to be quiet. 13" hats are too small and crisp, which cuts through more. I would say try Sabian's HH series or HHX "Stage" hats. They have a more vintage dark, dry, mellow sounds. Here is a link to a description page of some HH hats in 14". The "Fusion" hats are a little too cutting, but the Medium, tradition HH's and also check out the HHX Stage hats (HHX and stage models are made to sorta pre-EQed. Just below each cymbal on the link, it will say "Hear it Now", click on that and then it list "Single open Hits" or "Performance" samples. Hope it helps.http://www.sabian.com/cymbals/index/type:hats/series:hh/size_range:14-15/language:enhttp://
Members witesol
All good info, thanks, right now I have sx20 cymbals all around and some ZBT misc too. The ZBT actually sound mellower
Members vinniewannabe
I own a pair of Sabian 14" HHX Legacy HiHats and I think they fit your description. I have played them on my rock gigs but they can be a tad too quiet for that. They are trashy and quiet and dry and I really like the sound of them. They sound "old".
