If I was to create my own mobile rack system to use at rehearsals, live, recording,or anywhere, what rack mountable components would you suggest? Please just keep it simple. I just want to find a good sound that works with my voice and leave it there. I'm a little experiencd but not Live! I don't want to be completely at the mercy of the soundGuy:confused:

Honestly, BE AT THE MERCY OF THE SOUND GUY.

When I started singing I did ust what you are asking about. Bought a rolling rack, but an ART TPS-2 in it, a wireless in-ear monitor system, and looked for a good vocal effects unit when I had more money.

But really...carrying around all that crap didn't help me much at all. Unless the music you are singing requires effects or delays - you are better off just letting the sound guy do his thing. (Do get your own mic though)

Singing live can be challenging by itself. The only way to make it easier is to do it and learn the tricks.

When we play I can usually only hear myself in the MAINS. Took some time to get used to, but now I can sing that way.

I don't have any experience with them. I play guitar and sing for this band, so there's not much point.

But I don't think they are bad by any means. Just not that necessary unless you can work it into your show.

I do think it's cheezy when a wireless musician gets off the stage and walks around a bar. Unless it's a rehearsed gag, then it's dumb.

I run my own vocal effects live.

Basically, I stripped apart my old guitar rig and made it into a vocal rig. The effects come from a TC Electronics G-Force. I do the switching with a Digital Music Corp. Ground Control Pro.

Since it's a guitar processor, I run an XLR-1/4" cable into it and then the out of that into a DI box. The DI then goes to the board.

I've had zero problems live and sound guys are generally impressed with what I do with it and how it's used. I've got a tap tempo set up, so all my delays are in synch with the music. Some songs I use more delay than others, or certain moments I'll go for a longer delay with a higher mix.

I have it set up so I can do a big long trailing delay while going back to a normal vocal sound as well. Over-all, the vocals sound a lot more polished and perfected than they normally would.

It can be done a lot easier, check out TC Helicon's VoiceLive pedals. $250 and they'll do more than ya need...

HUGE difference between that dude who was singing WITHOUT a mic and someone who has a wireless mic.

Just my opinion. But I've seen too many a musicians with a wireless walk around and 90% of the time it's dumb as hell.

Depends on the musician and the crowd.

I often work with a lead singer who takes a wireless handheld mic out onto the dance floor and really gets the crowd moving.

My favorite bit is when he drops down onto his back during "Mustang Sally" and slithers around under the girls' legs. It's totally obscene, but the ladies eat it up.
