Members Thamel
What has the world come to...lone singers who can't play anything and have no idea about music can now create songs! http://software-arranger.microsoft.en.audiofanzine.com/news/index,idproduit,140015,mao,microsoft_presents_songsmith.html
Members GreenAsJade
If they are good songs, why is this a problem?
Members blue2blue
It's kind of amusing. If you have good time and good pitch and don't play piano or guitar, it might actually be of some worth, believe it or not. They have a free demo -- with a novel time-out -- it's six hours of use -- or at least focus time. If you minimize it, the timer turns off. I guess... Members SevenString
Interesting. My kids are always writing lyrics and melodies, so I think they might enjoy playing with it... (downloading as I type)

Members Thamel
I dunno, if we are going to take this as a kids game, or as just a game like Guitar Hero etc. and people have fun doing it and maybe develop better tune then OK. I suppose, it just bothers me because everything today is trying to find short cuts, and we all know that to be a singer requires alot more. I mean, even 'rock screamers' take voice lessons, and you need to develop an ear to stay in tune. Songsmith is not a substitute for that...plus their promo videos on their site are just so horribly cheesy, were they serious? Or this an inside Microsoft joke? Brilliant. Beats a lot of remixers I've heard. (BtW, that duotone thing he does is just eery.)
Members GreenAsJade
Yeah, eerie! James Morrison does a similar and even more wild thing with the trumpet: he plays a harmonised melody - two harmonised tones out of the one trumpet!
