TC-HELICON HarmonyG patch sharing

Here's an interesting gizmo that is a vox fx unit run by the guitar. I'd really like to get a discussion on the multiple uses of this new entry into Vocal processing gear. I just bought one and am finding it has more than just what you think. I'm still in "manual warfare" (reading manuals) and see it has some pro features built in that can take the place of my rack, which is way cool as I'm tired of carrying around stuff that's big and bulky.

There are some tricks to using this that I saw mentioned in the regular user reviews, which there are only 3 posted. Like I said it a new unit that is a guitarist/singers new found friend.

I'm sure as we dig into this we will find all kinds of cool patches so let us share them here. It can be used as a guitar processor too which is not what it meant to be. i think we have a valuable tool that when tweaked will amaze us. So lets see us begin. We can all use some help I'm sure.

For 300 bucks (I pd $259 for mine) it has you're pre-amp, some TC lectronic patches built in to run continuously just to get a better overall vocal sound and THEN it gets to business. Phantom powered, XLR in's and stereo outs, Guitar in, thru and a mix for about everything.

Think of it as your vocal fx rack in a floor pedal designed by TC Electronics and not Digitech. Then you'll get the idea it's most likely not a toy.

And it's got a couple backup singes stuffed in there as well.

So here's our thread as we move ahead on sounding really good and having control. At this point I'm trusting myself before I trust any sound guys. Let them get the overall mix together and then take over from the stage.

I've got one of these on order, mainly for the back-up vocals. I know NOTHING beats having good back-up singer, but in my band situation we were reccomended by some professionals in the industry to get some back-ups. Unfortunately, the other members of my band can't really sing and our band dynamic is really good right now so bringing in other people was kind of out of the question, so this was my solution.

I'm also looking forward to the EQ and compression settings to help give a nice crisp sound. I'll have it within the week and am looking forward to trying it!

PS. I know this is a spam post, but has anyone else tried this unit?

The "not a toy" comment is curious, regarding Digitech it appears you are tagging it as a very low end processor. While I really like some of the features of the Helicon, I find my Vocalist Live2 adds a great bit of harmony for me, high or low, excellent pitch. I have used it heavily for over a year now and it still works perfectly. My sole complaint for any of the floor processors is the cheap-assed power supply cord. One more AC cord amongst the cables is not that big a deal.

Agreed, the cord is cheap in comparison with the rest of it. So far it works really well.

I don't know much about the technical info, nor have I really used these kinds of pedals before but i haven't noticed any lag or anything like that as of yet...is that typically a problem?

how many voices does the live2 do for you?

I've been using one of these for a couple months and I think the harmonies it provides are great. A friend has a Digitech that I've sung through as well. Thw Digi does a very good job as well, but it does feel light compared to the TC Hellion. Construction weight aside, the offers the ability to have 10 preset harmonies. Some of the factory settings are good, some aren't. Though I'm sure it's a matter of personal taste.

It is easy to build new presets and to include the 'advanced' settings as well.

When you talk about "Patches", do you mean original presets? I'm a little confused about that.

i believe by patches he means presets you make OR the originals. basically whatever is set-up. it was a spam post to promote the product so was trying to hype it but i was just looking other people's feedback.

overall, now that i've had time to use it, i'm extremely happy. i wish it allowed some more preset spaces but asides from that it's my only complaint. it's super easy to use and sounds great.
