crate V Series V18-112 18W 1x12 Tube Guitar Combo Amp

Sound Quality

Using with both single coils and humbuckers. If you're trying to knock-off Joe Walsh or Ace Frehley, this is your amp. Screaming British-style overdrive, with plenty of compression. Tends to be a bit on the noisy side, which I attribute to the tubes. No matter - shut up and start playing (your banter is not funny) and no one will hear the noise. Reverb, as has been mentioned countless times by others, was ridiculous. One Accutronics 4EB2C1B tank later, and the reverb is great. The only other mod I needed was to cut the trace between the wiper and track on the "Mid" pot. This restores the tone stack to Marshall specs, and gets rid of the LF boominess often reported. Seems like that trace (emulating the Fender circuit) was an error on Crate's part.

Reliability/Durability

Seems pretty good so far. The board is hardly mil-spec, but of better quality than what Fender uses. The traces can withstand some careless soldering.

General Comments

I've been playing for over 30 years, and through my fair share of different amps.

If you didn't grab one of these when the retailers were blowing them out at $150 shipped(!!!) you missed out on the deal of the century.

If mine were stolen, I'd climb up on the roof with a high-powered rifle.
