How High Can You Sing?

Stonedtone

Sung to chorus of "light my fire" by the doors.

"I can make my voice much higher,

I can make my voice much higher,

Grab my nutsack with these - PLIERS! "

(My old lead singer in one band - I was a drummer for years - he used to rewrite the lyrics to songs, and that was one of them.)

:p

Back in the '80s I did C# above double high C. Now I rarely do anything above A above high C (the Ocean by Led Zep).

Wow a full 2 middle C’s above middle C? Surely we can’t refute this because I’d have to slap you with a glove for you to challenge my retort.

But I can belt out an F# which is a full 18 steps above a middle C on any given moment.

So your claim to fame puts you in the “counter tenor” range. Seriously that’s a high note and I doubt it was in a modal vocal. I have yet to meet a male who can sing “higher” than me in a modal range. Although I know it can be done.

Here's a dumb question,,,,,,,,,,,High C ...........

On Guitar , is 'High C' the 8th fret 1st (the little one) string ?

Middle C 1st Fret second string (B string) ?

Like C1 , C2, C3, C4, etc on piano, where are they on guitar ?

ps ..... hope Zowie had/has an easy landing...........from being 'Really High'....

I do love stirring the pot!...So when I say double high C, I mean the highest C on a guitar tuned to a440.

I'll have to dig up the cut with the C# ...as to what voice, all I know is it is loud as hell with all the voices connected top to bottom etc.

Middle C is Second String B - First Fret

Pluck it and you're smack dab in the middle of a piano C.

ah.....cough cough...then walk up 18 steps and hit a F# or First String Fret 14 and that's my highest note in my modal (regular tone before falsetto) voice.

But I'm gloating here and digressing...sorry. (Hey if I had six pack abs I'd send a pick if this was an "workout forum", but a pick of my vocal chords I'm sure isn't as pretty).

Singing high isn't exactly a talent. Why I find sopranos to be about as pleasing to the ear as a buzzing mosquito. You sing for the song or to your genetic abilities. Yes one can be conditioned to stretch their voice but there comes a point where we all find our limitations and do what we can individually to fit in. The voice is in instrument. When you need a low growling brass part you don't ask the piccolo trumpet to reach deep down and bellow.

My motto has always been to "learn something new everday"...I'm going to Google the Piccolo Trumpet and check that bad boy out. I've never heard of that instrument... (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Piccolo_trumpet)

But then again until I Googled the PT I didn't know there was something called the Thongophone (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thongophone) either.

I bet Sisqo (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wnn78AK41fI) kinda missed the boat on copywriting that term...the greatest cell phone ever way before we ever heard of an iPhone. Sisqo who you say? Yeah Im' sure he's laughing at a beach condo in the Bahama's til all the Rum runs out now.... lucky him.

Oh and singing high IS a talent. Well unless you can't do it! And I won't argue this point.

BTW The piccolo trumpet is also called the Bach trumpet. It's a very high brass instrument. Probably the best pop example is the trumpet solo on the Beatles' Penny Lane. Man did that make a difference. The previous solo instrument(forgot what it was)just didn't cut it. The same is true for vocals. Everyone has a place somewhere....or there abouts.
