Music Technology Dissertation Help!

Hey guys, I'm new here so I hope this post is in the right forum?

Basically, I'm studying for an Honours degree in Creative Music Technology, and for my dissertation I've chosen to investigate how peer-to-peer file sharing has affected people working in various capacities in the music industry.

I was just wondering if any of you wouldn't mind taking a minute to fill in my questionnaires? They're only short, and it'd be a big help to me.

http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/P2RNGND - This survey is aimed at people working in the industry as musicians, e.g. a gigging band, session musician etc.

http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/KQQXC5Y - This survey is aimed at people recording or selling music, e.g. recording engineers, record company personnel, retail assistants etc.

Cheers in advance, your input would be MUCH appreciated :)

I took a look at the survey but I wasn't sure about something.

when you ask about 'file-sharing' do you mean pirated stuff? or just that tech?

I think either way you should probably make that clear in the questions.

since it's for academics - you might want to specify if you mean just music or movies and warez and like that too.

@paulz

Hey, good point. What I mean specifically is the free downloading of music using peer-to-peer software/means, such as using torrents or clients such as Limewire.

not trying to be an overspecific jerk - Trying to get if we are talking piracy or if the poll is about P2P tech as an effective conduit or what : when you say 'free downloading of music' do you mean pirate stuff or stuff that the artist released/allows for free? or both??

you'll sometimes see pirates, even here in music biz, call pirated music 'free' to mean they didn't pay for it, but that's different than stuff offered gratis by the artist.

"They were giving away free keychains" or "look at this free keychain I shoplifted"

There's stuff like legaltorrents and jamendo and such, but there's also Pirate Bay and Demonoid. Both types are 'free of charge' and P2P, but they are different animals.
